As Little Golden books turns 75, we asked Editorial Director Diane Muldrow about the history of the treasured collection, the wonderful and unexpected characters that have graced its pages, and some of its best life lessons for readers of all ages.
Do you love reading to your children and have fond memories of Little Golden Books? This book would make a perfect addition to your collection. There is a missing page, so it might make a better use for epherma. This book is in decent shape for its age, with minimal yellowed edges and a bit of rough edges from shelf wear and handling. There are stray crayon marks on the inside of the front and back covers as well as part of the cardboard ripped off the front inside cover. It just adds to the charm in my opinion, but be aware it does not look like a new book. Priced for these details. Publish date shows 1980 by Golden Press; Western Publishing Company, Inc., Racine Wisconsin. Vintage items can be combined to reduce shipping. Please convo any questions or request prior to purchase. These will be sent media mail to reduce cost. Thanks! My other shop where I've been selling vintage and antiques for years is mickismithmugs. I wanted to put all vintage items together in a store specific to them, but my feedback and history can be noted on my other store name. Buy with confidence!

I have been collecting vintage Disney Little Golden Books for quite some time. So, when I saw this beautiful new book by Charles Solomon at Disneyland this past summer, I had to get it! "The Art Of The Disney Golden Books"...... It's a GORGEOUS book, and the perfect addition to go along with my collection! I also have other books about these wonderful vintage books for children, including Warman's Field Guide. I've written about the guides before. And I found the completely blank Little Golden Book you can also see below at a thrift store. I don't know anything about those. I imagine they were made so that a child (or adult!) could create their own little book? Cool idea. You can see four of the great vintage Little Golden Books in this vintage advertisement, below: I happen to have those four, also - as you can see in my photo below - but I'm afraid I had to pay more than fifty cents for mine: But that's only because I didn't have a package coupon from 3-Minute Oats to send in back in the 1960's to get them...... Inside this edition of Tomart's Disneyana from 1996, they have pages showing all (or most?) of the Disney Little Golden Books that had been published up until that time: Here is a scan of the first page of them shown in the magazine: Here is a photo of some of mine: I don't have every single one, but I do have most of them (only a portion of my collection is shown - I couldn't quite handle laying all of them out like that - but you get the idea, I would imagine?) So, perhaps you can understand why I felt that I needed to have this book.... I truly did. And, by the way - it cost me nothing, since I purchased it with what I love to call my "Free Disney Money" (rewards points earned by using the Disney Chase Visa Card.) It just doesn't get much better than that.
I found a few different examples of Hansel and Gretel illustrations, and I just wanted to share them because they are so sweet. First, we have this illustration from "Favorite Bedtime Stories" illustrated by Miss Elliott, from 1943: Eloise Wilkin's illustrations in this Little Golden Book: And another Little Golden Book, this one also from 1943, and illustrated by Erika Weihs: Look at the cute little house, and the smiling sun on the title page! I love it. (Finding these has given me an idea: How about a Tim Burton version of Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm's original story - you know, a live-action fantasy type of thing like Alice In Wonderland? Although it doubtless would not be a saccharine-sweetened version of the story like those in these vintage books, it sounds like a good idea to me!)
