Despite the ravages of time, there remains a vitality and defiance in the features of the land, highlighted by the ubiquitous bold ochre colours and slashes of vivid hues from the wildflowers and also reflected in the expansive smooth surfaces of the eroded

Sunitha Gaddam, the artist, made this painting at the age of 16. She used a variety of colors to give her painting vibrancy. Her piece was created in the style of Gond tribal art originating from Madhya Pradesh, where locals painted the walls of their homes with the people, flora and fauna around them. On close examination, we notice that Sunitha has drawn the tree and the birds perched on the branches in circular motion while the two peacocks next to the trunk break this movement. Meanwhile, the brightly shining sun bears witness to this picturesque interaction. Sunitha is an Aseema alumna who passed Standard X in the year 2012. She took a keen interest in the arts in school, where she created masterful works in myriad media. She is currently working with Accenture as a Senior Analyst. This student artwork is available as an unframed, high-quality art print. You can see other works by Sunitha at various ages in our shop: "Wood Nymph," "Fishes" (inspired by her field trip at Aseema to see the movie "Finding Nemo"), "Violin," and "Dumbo." All proceeds will be used to support the Aseema Charitable Trust in providing high-quality, value-based, secular education, and medical care to extremely poor children in India. Learn more about Aseema at www.aseema.org and Friends of Aseema at www.friendsofaseema.org. Aseema is part of the Room 13 network specializing in teaching art to children. The art program was developed by Varsha Trivedi. Ms. Trivedi was a gold medalist from one of India's best art schools. She came out of retirement to teach for more than 20 years without pay. Aseema students live in extreme poverty. With caring education, highly trained Montessori teachers, and medical care, the children excel. Your purchase supports the transformation of lives.

Notably, the bird in this illustration is none other than the iconic kookaburra, a native species of their homeland, Australia. Emma Mitchell has suffered with depression - or as she calls it, 'the grey slug' - for twenty-five years. In 2003, she moved from the city to the edge of the Cambridgeshire Fens and began to take walks in the countryside around her new home, photographing, collecting and drawing as she went. Each walk lifted her mood, proving to be as medicinal as any talking therapy or pharmaceutical. In Emma's hand-illustrated diary, she takes us with her as she follows the paths and trails around her cottage and further afield, sharing her nature finds and tracking the lives of local flora and fauna over the course of a year. Reflecting on how these encounters impact her mood, Emma's moving and candid account of her own struggles is a powerful testament to how reconnecting with nature may offer some answers to today's mental health epidemic. While charting her own seasonal highs and lows, she also explains the science behind such changes, calling on new research into such areas as forest bathing and the ways in which our bodies and minds respond to plants and wildlife when we venture outdoors. Written with Emma's characteristic wit and frankness, and filled with her beautiful drawings, paintings and photography, this is a truly unique book for anyone who has ever felt drawn to nature and wondered about its influence over us. Hardback. Written by Emma Mitchell. Adult non-fiction; environment/ memoir. Published by Michael O'Mara Books Limited. 192 pages. 21.5cm x 15.5cm.
