Question from Yesterday: DonnaK asked where I buy Twinkling H2Os. I bought mine at Marco's Paper, a brick and mortar store in the Dayton area. But you can find them at the big craft stores (Michael's, Hobby Lobby, JoAnn's) and buy with a coupon! Now on to today's post, which hopefully Blogger will post in a timely fashion.... Today's Tip is one of those that, on the one hand, seems like a no-brainer, but, on the other hand, makes life so much easier! After getting sick of doing the same math over and over, I made a simple, handwritten index card, which I posted on my bulletin board right over my workspace, with a list of dimensions for cutting stamped panels to matte evenly on a standard 5 1/2" x 4 1/4" card. It lists the sizes for cutting panels in quarter-inch increments. (Those of you who live in countries where "standard" is different can easily adapt this idea for yourselves.) I typed it up for those of you using American measures. Hopefully, you can save it and print it for your own use. If I cut a 4 1/4" x 3" stamped, panel, for instance, all I have to do is move up a quarter inch to get the measurements for a 1/8" matte all the way around the stamped panel. For a thinner 1/16" matte (as on yesterday's card), it's easy enough to just add 1/8" to the dimensions of the stamped panel. I hope this makes sense. And here is a happy CAS card that utilized this little chart. Design Discussion: Please note how I rooted the flowers in the open space provided by the sentiment. I just love the way that looks!!!! Supplies stamps: Shady Tree Studio ink: Memento paper: PTI white, SU brilliant blue accessories: dimensionals. Personal News: My son Jack, who has high-functioning autism, was released from private occupational therapy Wednesday! After four years, he's finally functionally appropriate for fine motor and hand-eye coordination! YIPPYYYYY! He continues to receive OT through our school district, but this is a wonderful milestone for him to meet...and one less regular therapy session to cart him to! His developmental pediatrician saw Jack yesterday and is blown away by his progress. Jack truly has blossomed in the past six months. He's even one of the best readers in his regular 2nd grade class! Needless to say, we're on Cloud 9 around here right now, and I just had to share!!!
Hey crafters, hope you’re well! Today sees that start of a brand new CAS-ual Fridays Challenge and I’m sure you’re going to love it! The theme is Summer lovin’ and your miss…
I've been absent from the weekly CC2C challenges for the past few weeks. I hadn't missed a week since the challenge began but something came up and I couldn't find the inspiration. After various doctor appointments and procedures, for something I thought would be relatively benign, I found out that I had endometrial cancer. The doctor said that it was detected very early but when you hear the word "cancer" you kind of don't hear anything else after that. A week later I was sitting in an oncologist's office hearing the words "aggressive" and "lymph nodes" which, when combined with "cancer", form a pretty scary picture. Another two weeks later brings us to last Tuesday when I was wheeled into an operating room for a full hysterectomy and lymphectomy. I haven't yet received the surgeon's final report but, post-surgery, he told my family that everything looked really good and he would be shocked if any of the pathology indicated that the cancer had spread anywhere else. So I'm going with that for now! The piece below came out of that wholly unexpected experience. I'm submitting it to this week's CC2C challenge, hosted by Linda at Studio L3, which is Kraft Resist. The details can be found on page 41 of Tim Holtz A Compendium of Curiosities Vol 2. If you don't already have the book, please get it. You'll be glad you did! I'm also submitting it to Frilly and Funkie where the fortnightly challenge is How Can You Resist? And to Simon Says Stamp and Show-Inspired by Summer Distress. The TH Sizzix In The Bag die was cut from TH Idea-ology Kraft Resist paper. The Distress Inks used are Seedless Preserves, Victorian Velvet, Picked Raspberry, Broken China, Peeled Paint and Mustard Seed. The opening was cut using the TH Sizzix Movers and Shapers Mini Tickets die. The flowers and scrolls are from the TH Sizzix Tattered Flower Garland and Festive Greenery Strip dies and the TH Sizzix Bigz Tattered Pinecone die. The small label is from the TH Stamper's Anonymous Apothecary stamp set with the TH Idea-ology ChitChat stickers. On the tag I used Ranger TH Distress Stains in Picket Fence, Victorian Velvet and Pumice Stone. This has become a favorite combination! The stamps are from TH Stamper's Anonymous Artful Flight, Fairytale Frenzy, and Stuff to Say. I used a piece of plastic packaging with the butterfly stamp in Ranger Archival Ink and then colored it with Ranger Adirondack Alcohol Ink. I attached it to the tag with the TH Idea-ology Tiny Attacher. For the finishing touch I added the piece of stained trimmings that was included with my order from The Funkie Junkie's Boutique and a TH Idea-ology Muse Token! I hope you like it! If you're still reading at this point I have some good news! My local scrapbook store, Whim So Doodle, recently had a call for designers for their very first design team. I hesitated to throw my name in the hat since I wasn't sure what would happen with the surgery and afterward. I waited until the last day and decided to go for it. I'm so glad I did because I made the team! It is my first time participating on a design team and I'm very excited!! Wish me luck!

****UPDATED with embossing folder information******Thank you so much for all of your sweet comments on my August release projects! I'm popping in today to share a pair of sympathy cards using a few new-to-me goodies that I recently purchased! I can't seem to keep my sympathy card stash stocked, and here I am again needing another one! I decided to make two cards so that at least I could add one to my stash and send the other out the door. I think I need to set aside one day every couple of weeks to just work on sympathy cards. I can't seem to stop with my same old formula for sympathy designs, so I apologize if you've grown weary of these; this is another one of those posts that is probably more for me! ha ha! I did, however, want to share with you the beautiful Lovely Layers: Wildflowers Honey Cuts! I think by now you know how much I love a good flower/leaf die collection! This particular set really spoke to me and I couldn't wait for them to arrive in my mailbox! I also ordered the Vintage Garden stamp set specifically for the fabulous sentiments! I'm very particular with which sentiments I like and which ones I don't! I knew that I would use the ones in this stamp set often, so I wanted to add it to my collection! As you can see, this particular card got one of my older favorites; this one is included in the Feathered Friends 4 mini stamp set and is my usual go-to. I die cut all of the flowers from white cardstock and then colored them with assorted Distress Oxide inks and then glued them together using liquid glue and foam squares for the poppy flower. The two Ballet Blue background panels measure 3 3/4 by 5 and are dry embossed using the Regency Swirls embossing folder that was included with my Gemini Jr. I arranged the three flowers as the focal point on the Love to Layer: Oval using foam squares. I heat embossed the sentiment onto a strip of vellum and wrapped it around the focal panel and secured it on the back using scotch tape. For this card, I really wanted to use the beautiful, large sentiment as the focal point and then arrange the flowers around the oval. I spritzed both cards with shimmer spray for a hint of sparkle and then added glitter to this card; I usually don't use glitter on sympathy cards, but I felt like this one needed it! Thanks for fluttering by!
