Welkom bij Stolte's Showroom, waar de nostalgie van vervlogen tijden tot leven komt in de glinsterende metalen carrosserieën en het karakteristieke gebrom van oldtimer bromfietsen.
Most vintage motorcycles look spindly and fragile. Others look bulbous and unbalanced to modern eyes. But a select few—Vincent included—look hunkered-down and purposeful, and strangely modern: their aesthetic balance has endured. Excelsior is a name that can be added to that list, as long as you get the right Excelsior—because there are at least eight motorcycle manufacturers who have used that brand name (meaning lofty, or higher) in the past. The 1937 Excelsior we’re looking at here was produced by Britain’s very first motorcycle maker—the firm of Bayliss, Thomas and Co. The company has an interesting history: after making its

It’s hard to believe that the Wrenchmonkees have been operating for three years now. But in that short time, they’ve become one of the most recognized names in the custom motorcycle world. The history of this 1977 Kawasaki Z1000A is entwined in the history of the company, because it’s been in and out of the Copenhagen workshop since the start. Union Motorcycle Classics is a bunch of like-minded friends operating out of an old red dairy barn in Idaho. Mike Watanabe and Co. are churning out a steady stream of delectable customs, and the latest is this 1967 BSA A65 Lightning. The boys bought the bike few years back, lured by its pristine 650 cc parallel twin engine. ‘The motor is stock,’ reports Mike. ‘They last a lot longer that way. A good friend of mine who is a great mechanic very carefully assembled it. He lost interest in the Lightning and sold it to me for a song—so I

The scintillating Isle of Man TT action has got us thinking about sidecars. Not just the Ural kind, but the racing kind too. The elegant machine above is the BMW campaigned by Max Deubel—the 'Sidecar Superstar'—and passenger Emil Horner. Deubel was the four-times World Champion, from 1961-4, winning ten Grand Prix races. How cool would it be if one of the today's leading custom builders created a modern version of this BMW sidecar? The picture, by the way, is not the actual Rennsport vehicle, but a model from the amazing collection of French Flickr member seeleynorton.
