“This is a love story. You know. How two people, joined together, become themselves.”
Who else but Maira Kalman would come up with a series of images dedicated to “girls standing on lawns”? Here, the artist explains her fascination with the subject matter, and shares som…
The New York Times has another of the monthly features by artist Maira Kalman. This month's installment is about the history of the courts. Click here to see the entire feature. This is one of the comments on the piece: you are one of the best writers ever and if you were my neighbor i would weed your garden for free just because you understand what is important in the world and how to illustrate it nicely.
#inspiration Very inspiring interview with illustrator / journalist Maira Kalman: http://t.co/jPBAYSEAay
The first thing Maira Kalman does as we enter the west-facing room of the Jewish Museum gallery is have us sit on two chairs facing the windows. “A view of Central Park. What’s better than that? We don’t even need to do anything.” And with that practical meditation, we are in the world of artist, …

Today the Contemporary Jewish Museum opens Maira Kalman:
The prolific Illustrator is a master of whimsy and wit, finding beauty in the mundane and—with a new book—the drawing of cakes.
Behold the wonderful and vividly coloured world of Maira Kalman! A regular contributor to The New Yorker and illustrator of numerous children's books, Kalman has also designed fabric for Issac Mizrahi. Maira Kalman has a selection of her illustrations in...
Popular artist and writer Maira Kalman has a regular spot in the opinion section of The New York Times. You can see more of that work here. I love her quirky style and the way she combines text and images,...
Self portrait with Pete, 2004-5 I assume that many of Animalarium's readers are familiar with Maira Kalman. You probably have seen some of her whimsical New Yorker covers and children's books, or maybe you know her for her design work with M&Co, or as the wife and collaborator of the late Tibor Kalman, legendary graphic designer and founding editor of Colors. Recently, Maira wrote and illustrated the blog "And the pursuit of Happiness" for the New York Times. The list of her creative pursuits could go on and on... Illustration from Maira Kalman's book The Principles of Uncertainty Recently I discovered one more artistic expression of the multi-talented Ms. Kalman, this series of portraits of pets and their owners' legs from Ralph Pucci's website. I quite enjoy them, and hope you do too!

Pause for a moment as you enter the exhibit highlighting Maira Kalman’s books for children, currently at the Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art, to gaze at a recreation of artist/author’s studio wall. The assemblage combines ordinary with obscure:...
I would love nothing more than to spend an entire day with Maira Kalman just chitchatting about nothing and anything. I should invite her to come to Montreal, but perhaps not during the winter season, hmm. I have a feeling she would find the Québécois as hysterical as I do. (FYI, I mean this with love!) She recently illustrated Michael Pollan's popular book, Food Rules an eater's manual, and I can't wait to get my hands on it. Kalman's colorful contributions are priceless, but kudos to Pollan for the obviously enlightening quotes. A few excerpts below... Place a Bouquet of Flowers on the Table and Everything Will Taste Twice as Good. Cook. Eat When You Are Hungry, Not When You Are Bored. I wonder if this book will cure my uncontrollable potato chips fetish. Are they really horrible?. . .even if they're the Natural Reduced Fat Sea Salted Potato Chips by RUFFLES? Mark LOVES sweets and I've been hooked on the salty-sour stuff since birth. Mmm, I blame those spicy Mexican candies from my lovely childhood! **Maira Kalman illustrations borrowed from here.
by Christine Cariati My dream is to walk around the world. A smallish backpack, all essentials neatly in place. A camera. A notebook. A traveling paint set. A hat. Good shoes. A nice pleated (green…

The author-illustrator chose a pair of pants, among other idiosyncratic objects, to showcase at the Smithsonian Design Museum in Manhattan when it re-opens this December.
This is a nice story. Years ago I used to work for Tibor Kalman, one of the great prolific creative directors on the planet as far as I am concerned. At the time when I was interviewing to work for he and Ingrid Sischy at Interview magazine, he told me that if he hired me it woul

The artist and illustrator talks about her lovely new illustrated memoir, what’s next, and where she’ll be sketching this weekend.
I’m eager to visit New York this fall and artist Maira Kalman’s Darling Dorset exhibition at Julie Saul Gallery is at the top of my to do list. The series of eleven gouache paintings is described as “a valentine to the beautiful region on the Southwest part of the UK where Maira Kalman travelled to look […]
