About The Artwork Titled 'Desire And Despair', this painting explores the eternal connection between what we desire and what leads to despair. How our unfulfilled desires become the cause for despair, leading to emotional trauma, self destructive behavior and depression. It is as if the two are eternally linked, two sides of the same coin. They can exist separately but are somehow always connected. This painting also personifies the strength in our desires which can grow even in the most desperate and desolate surroundings. It shows how desire is born again and again; hope surges and life continues in the cycle. The circle again, my muse! NOTE: Custom duty fee if any is payable by the buyer. About The Artwork 'Control' defines our existence today. Our civilization thrives on it. Our personal lives are controlled by 'Control'! It helps us tame ourselves and others. It helps us exercise authority and dominance over every aspect of our existence and gives us power and status in our societal construct. Power is the intoxication which makes the world swoon. We are constantly exerting control through violence, manipulation, commands or pleas trying to keep the power in our hands. We are constantly chasing our goals, fulfilling our needs at any cost. Spirituality constantly warns us about this obsession with control and reminds us again and again that there is nothing absolute and nothing in this universe which we can control. It is all just an illusion. Yet we are constantly trying to be in charge and keep others in control... to play with them as puppets forgetting in the process that we are puppets too. Ventriloquists speak through their puppets in the process adapting the puppets character. So, who can say for sure that the puppet is not speaking through the Ventriloquist instead? The illusion is the reality and the reality is an illusion. I have used watercolor wash on handmade paper and used a pen to draw the details with water proof ink. About The Artwork No one hears them weep, or rather sees their silent tears as they will themselves to sleep, to get lost in their dreams and shut out the chaos and high emotional drama playing outside the safety of their bed room door! The screams and moans become hard rock lullabies playing in a constant loop! Language crosses the barrier of decency! Such are the nights, spent in anxiety and escapism, of the rising number of children belonging to families which are defunct, abusive and riddled with domestic violence! The parents don’t notice anything because they are too busy with their egos, clashing! Their child becomes just another reason to hang on to a failed marriage, more of a curse than a gift. Fuses are running short, tempers are soaring! Compromise has become synonymous to love! I wonder, what kind of adult human beings are these children going to grow up into? Will they be able to love others? Will they grow up to be responsible and tolerant? Will they be able to build lasting bonds of family and friends? Will they ever grow up at all? Will they ever have a childhood, to begin with? This artwork is an ode to all those children who have been victims of broken families, abuse and non existent childhood. I have used water color wash on handmade paper and drawn in the details with a pen using waterproof ink. NOTE: Custom duty fee if any is payable by the buyer. About The Artwork Religion and cultures which dominate the world today are very misogynistic in nature. Women, who once were revered for their natural potency to create life have become the temptresses and the origin of sin! Women have been dominated and enslaved by men for centuries as lesser humans. This painting tries to portray the hypocrisy of our society and its patriarchal attitude towards women who have become objects to be desired, used and broken by men for the pleasure of men and then be ostracized as the seed of sin! I have used watercolor wash on handmade paper and then drawn the details with a pen using waterproof ink. NOTE: Custom duty fee if any is payable by the buyer. About The Artwork ‘As a man abandons his worn-out clothes and acquires new ones, so when the body is worn out a new one is acquired by the Self, who lives within.’ - Bhagavat Gita, Hinduism The idea of rebirth has always baffled me. The idea of the soul living on even after our earthly bodies have been discarded and decayed is quite unfathomable. It makes us wonder about afterlife and teaches us not to fear death. It provides us the strength to understand the larger scheme of things and what part we play in it. The eternal cycle of death and resurrection, of destruction and creation. About The Artwork The element of Fire is associated with the power of transformation on all levels. It is the source of light and knowledge. The brightness of Fire is related to our intent/purpose, the vigour of passion, and the ability to be judicious. In nature we experience fire as the light and heat of the sun, which is a source of life, but the same heat when too strong can turn forests into deserts. It both nurtures and destroys. Fire is volatile and easily flares out of control and it is necessary to be careful with this element. Within us the element of fire is the light of knowledge, or spiritual enlightenment, a driving force which helps us live a life of purpose but that same fire if allowed to go out of balance can manifest as anger, mania, or egotism. We have playing with the destructive powers of fire for our selfish needs. We have used fire as a tool of violence. We have fought wars to rule over the world. We have burnt and tortured those who have not followed our dictates. We have used fire to end life and it is coming back to haunt us. This series has been inspired by the 5 elements of life which form everything inside and around us and how greed and progress is destroying the balance between these elements and hence the balance between survival and extinction, life and death. This artwork is a part of a group of 5 drawings on the theme of the 5 elements. You might want to buy this drawing as a single piece but it does create a more wholesome effect when displayed with the other 4 drawings. I will suggest that you collect all five artworks and display them together. They will surely grab a lot of attention and spark conversation. You will cherish owning them and the experience they create for you. About The Artwork According to Indian and Tibetan Tantric spiritual practices, the ‘kundalini’ is the primal energy or life force which lies coiled at the base of the spine, in every human being. Through certain rituals and meditation this energy can be roused in quest of spiritual awakening and communion with the divine spirit leading to spiritual bliss. The Kundalini is mostly described as a serpent, lying coiled and dormant at the base of our spine until the time we experience spiritual awakening. Then the Kundalini shakti (energy which is feminine in aspect) rises through the six ‘Chakras’ in our body, stimulating each Chakra as it passes through it. At the epitome of its arousal, the Kundalini shakti reaches the seventh Chakra which is situated at the crown of our head to achieve communion with Mahadeva/Shiva who is the masculine energy and hence this communion results in spiritual bliss akin to a lotus blooming with thousand petals. Any human who has been able to reach this state of Spiritual bliss, finds peace in their soul and reaches a heightened state of awareness where they are able to pierce through the physical bonds of ‘Maya’ and grasp the ultimate truth about their existence. It is the eternal quest of Shakti to unite with Shiva, and each of us is a vessel to that end. This painting explores the connection between love and spirituality. I have used watercolor on handmade paper and created the details and texture with a pen using waterproof ink. NOTE: Custom duty fee if any is payable by the buyer. Steve Seven (ed.) viii, 60 pp. Hardcover First edition. Includes four tipped-in colour plates. Check out our other listings. Paperback also available. Peer reviews of our books: Steve Seven's book; "The Idea of the Archetype", has greatly helped to broaden and deepen my understanding and appreciation of the influential role the instincts, and, thereby the archetypes, play in our psychology. Particularly the role they play in our daily lives and in our interactions with others. This has gone a long way toward helping me to being a more effective agent in the sessions with my clients, helping them to know themselves better and to grasp what is happening for them both personally and interpersonally. I have much appreciation for the work Steve has put in this endeavour. Dr. Andrew Prokopis M.ED, PSY.D Steve Seven is adept at explaining the psychological roots of alchemy and other esoteric spiritual disciplines and at placing them in their historical context. His work shows us a valuable path of spiritual progress. John Opsopaus, PhD Author of: "The Oracles of Apollo" "The Pythagorean Tarot" Dear Steve, Your book has good insights and I'm enjoying it.
