The traditional dress from Mariovo is closely connected to the mountain character of the region. It is instantly recognisable by the characteristic thick and bright red wool fringe on the sleeveless coat and on the bottom half of the apron.
A few pieces of the Mariovo traditional dress; the scarf is called a ’Tulben’, which is one of the garments of the Mariovo traditional costume that gives it its characteristic look. It is a white headscarf with embroidery, fringe and coloured, mostly red, pompoms, ‘bel tulben so alovna kiska’. The metal adornments were called ‘Ružalo’ or ‘Oružje’, and in this case ‘žensko oružje’, literally translated to women’s weaponry. The ‘Kocel’ is а black woollen hair ornament that could weigh up to 20 kg.
