The original pattern was designed by Nancy Tracy of Be-Stitched, but I have modified it a bit - added a repeat to make a 6-pointed snowflake instead of a 5-pointed flower, added a picot at the tip of the "petal", and omitted a picot or two from the "fluffy" part of the pattern. I really like the central star, but it's obscured by some picots, and some of the picots in the "fluffy" part overlap each other which always annoys me, so I tried it again with my original variations but removing more picots. I'm not sure which one I like more. Either way, this is a fun little motif and was quick to tat, and would make lovely 5-pointed flowers in colored thread as well as a snowflake in white. I found it helpful to use a gauge to ensure the long chains were all the same length (I tat on the bus while commuting and it sometimes has negative effects on chain tension consistency). I got the pattern for free by being subscribed to her newsletter, but it appears that instead of putting this pattern on her extensive pages of free patterns (here) she has listed it for sale in her store (here). If you wish to subscribe to her shop newsletter to get other free patterns in the future, follow the instructions on her website.
I'm still motoring on with my madly coloured crochet blanket but I took a little break to tat this flower from Jan Stawasz's second book. ...
The stitch counts for a square that I tatted for the Tat A Monument In Pink project. Measures 3 cm square in size 20 thread.
I just made three snowflakes for the sale; I just need to add hangers to them. I've tried to stick with reasonable colors for snow on these. I figure most of the customers at the sale (other than the people running it) probably won't understand the concept of tatting for its own sake; they will want it to "be" something. And if it's going to be a snowflake, then it probably shouldn't be bright purple. This is "Angels in the Snow", done in LadyShuttleMaker's "Icicle" HDT. This is a terrific colorway if you don't feel like tatting in plain white but still want to convey the idea of winter. It may not be totally realistic, but it gives the snowflake some depth while sticking with the colors that people associate with snow and winter. Another way of adding a little depth to your snowflake is to pair the white with a very pale solid. This is my "Crazy Daisy" pattern, done in white and Krystledawne's "Fairy Faint". I've mentioned before that this colorway does not scan or photograph well; it is so light that it's hard to get it not to look white. I think you can see it a little bit, but you'll have to take my word for it that this flake looks way better in person. On a tangent, I hope that when Dr. Vonthreadmore returns from her travels, she will dye a few solids, because "Fairy Faint" is one of my all-time favorite colorways, and I'm almost out of it. Finally, there's really nothing wrong with a plain white snowflake, is there?
Happy Tatting Day to all my friends in TatLand! Made this little tatted bouquet today ( actually yesterday, put it together today!) The flower is simple rings, no joins, nothing. But the leaves are 'special', if I may call them that! Well, I tried making leaves, in one go, and thought of using Single Shuttle Split Rings. All three are done differently, going up then down, or going up and up, if you know what I mean. There must be, infact are, better ways to make leaves, but I thought of this. Do tell me what you think of them! Happy tatting day once again. Enjoy. Luv.
I love tatting with magic square method, while you can tat the work in one pass. However, I have to pay lots of attention where to join the picots, and also plan ahead for what size you want to mak…
I'm in the process of updating this page, so that it will show pictures of each design as well as links to the patterns. Clicking on the text below each image will take you to the pattern (if available). Most of these designs are original, however, a few have been adapted from existing patterns. "Briar fragment" from "Tatting with Visual Patterns" by Mary Konior. Actually, my attempt has more picots in some of the petals. I inadvertently added an extra picot in the first of the larger petals, so I just decided to be consistent! This motif is something I'm going to use on a note card.
I was here quite a long time ago, but telling the truth, without a computer it is hard to write new posts. I had a fabulous Imac, 8 years old, and last May the video card stopped to work. It is in the second service, but they can't find a proper piece to repair. So I think it is the end of our relationship. To buy a new one is very expensive, but I don't want any other type of machine. Anyway, now I could steal a little bit of time on the family one :) My first tatting work in this year a little motif I have found on Frivol's blog. Very cute. I modified a little bit the corner parts, the loops are just a fraction bigger, than the original. I made some samples to put together the motifs for doily or any other use.Of course I have some more ideas. And I would like to try something to turn it into a chic pendant:)
I've got so many projects I want to do and so little time these days. Here is the newest project. I'm tatting an edge for a friend of my mother. She had several hankies in storage and wanted to give them to me. It seems her mother did crochet edges and never used these hankies. I asked her to pick one for me to take and 'regift' her. Here is the hanky and the beginning of an edge. I chose an edge from Mary Konior's book, "Tatting with Visual Patterns". I think this is the bride's maids pattern. I'll have to check again and let you know if it's different. As you see, I've got a long way to go. One note...I really like the edging patterns which help you visualize the corners. Now, I just hope this will repeat 'just right' and fit the hanky I've got. On another note, I would love to be able to respond to your wonderful comments but have been unable to do so.... I've tried everything. So, I'm at a loss on that one. I will tell you, I'm really looking forward to TAT days this September. I hope your weekend is grand! john
Ok,,,sorry I didn't get anything new posted like I had planned. I do apologize :( But I am here,,I guess better late than never right! Hehehe Ok on to the tatting! First of all,,,there are a couple of wonderful tatter and friends who has been REALLY encouraging me to get back into not only my fiberarts again,,,but into TATTING!!!! Thank you OHHHH SO MUCH my dear friends Valerie Ho and Beverly Elrod!!!! Then Valerie and I started talking before Christmas about doing an exchange and since she knows I don't celebrate the holidays,,we decided to do a private exchange. I'm still working on mine :( As part of the exchange from Valerie,,,she sent me this BEAUTIFUL and FABULOUS order of HDT Lizbeth thread from Handy Hands! This is size 40 thread and what didn't get added in the pic was also a size 16 steel crochet hook for BEADS!!!! THANK YOU SOOOO MUCH Valerie, (I know I can't say it enough LOL!) :-] Sooo of course my first project had to be ROSES!!!! The roses pattern is created by Jeanne Lugert 3-D earrings n pendant The Leaf pattern is a pattern created by Linda Davies, with a little alternation on the 'stem' end. Next I had some metal ring bracelets I had bought last year at the local (suppose to be) dollar store (they weren't no dollar believe me lol). Sooooo When I seen this pattern in my 'Easy Tatting' Book by Rozella Linden,,,,who could resist :] I did the blue/purple/red ornamental snowflake first (goofing and getting 7 pts in instead of 6 the pattern called for) , then I thought oh how pretty the fall colors would be in the gold ring. Sooo here are the results. Well that is all for now. Hope you enjoyed as much as I did tatting and sharing! BLESSINGS and Hugs, Brothers and Sisters :)
Tatting is a beautiful and rare craft where thread is knotted to form lace. There are two types of tatting and this page will give beginners an introduction to both, with patterns and video tutorials.
Here is the pattern for this simple little star if you'd like to make it. It's quick to tat, perfect for last minute presents or to decora...
With wind chill factor being below zero (Fahrenheit) it's a great time for P.J.'s and staying indoors. Here is what I crocheted. A ponytail hat/neck warmer. Easy to make and in no time at all I had one made for myself. Also, having a blast with these adorable ICE DROPS. A little something for the Christmas tree, or hanging anywhere you want a little color. Here I have already added my beads to the ball thread, ready to make these dandy little gems up into 'Ice Drops'! So many have started making these and I have seen a lot on Facebook and even Pinterest. The gems are little glass pieces about 3/4 inch. They can be found in the floral department of most stores. They are used to add to the bottom of a vase. You may have notice them. I found some at Wal-Mart, Dollar General and Hobby Lobby. Now, I will share the link on how to make these 'Ice Drops'. Diane, aka 'Lace Lovin' Liberian' has shared a tutorial for making these. Many thanks Diane! Have fun making these and share with me your Ice Drops! Love to see what you come up with. https://lacelovinlibrarian.blogspot.com/2016/11/step-by-step.html Have fun! Take note, they are additive to make! LOL
Mr G may not be impressed with my tatting... But I am certainly taken with his fine teeth! We brush! Taking a Jan Stawasz break, I felt like a few small Mary Konior motifs, tatted with the remaining Karey Solomon HDT, #40. Then another of Frivole’s - latest pattern Snowdrop, this time tatted in DMC #60, a WONDERFUL thread. This one is smaller than the DMC Cordonnet #30tatted previously: The hankie edging - Hedgehogs - in #80 Lizbeth is a slow one to tat. Not hard, but very time-consuming. I really like this Mary Konior edging.
Last time I showed you a single square of Mary Konior's "Masquerade": I have now increased it to four squares, and the effect is quite snazzy (in my own opinion, of course!). The pattern is from MK's book Tatting with Visual Patterns. It's one I've been wanting to make for a long time and just never got around to somehow. I love how new patterns are created where the individual motifs meet. Mary Konior's designs never cease to amaze me; most of them, including this one, use only the most basic ball and shuttle techniques, yet she was always able to come up with something new and different using these simple methods. When you remember that this is going to be a coaster, you will realize that I must have used size 80 thread to make it small enough, and in fact it is just the right size for the square coasters I'll be using next. The threads are DMC 80 in colors 794 (the lighter blue) and 798 (the darker).
