Phew! Christmas is really creeping up - only 5 weeks to go! Week 3 of A Blog Named Hero's Christmas event is all about decor. I don't really make papercrafted decor items for around the house, except for at Christmastime! I decided to go all out and make something I've never tried before - a Kusudama ball. Kusudama flowers are origami flowers made by folding a square of paper for each petal. You can stop at 5 petals to make 1 flower, but the ball that I made has 12 flowers in it - that's 60 petals! That's a lot of folding! I started out by using patterned paper from Lawn Fawn and American Crafts - Amy Tangerine. However, after making a few flowers this way, I decided to use thinner paper, as the thicker paper was a little too hard to fold the muliple times necessary for each petal. I then moved on to normal printer paper, but I stamped on the edges to make it more pretty!! I used Hero Arts, CAS-ual Fridays, Neat and Tangled, Avery Elle and Simon Says Stamp stamps on the petals. The petals all start out as a square of paper: They get folded into petals, then 5 petals are glued together: (you can find a photo tutorial on folding the petals HERE) 12 flowers all folded and ready to assemble - I was a bit worried about glueing them all together, but that bit turned out to be really easy!

Hi everyone! I have a fun 3-D ornament to share today using Spellbinders dies. **UPDATE: This 10 year old post is getting traction. This die set has long been discontinued! You can find currently sold Ornament die sets HERE. My project uses the new 2012 Heirloom Ornament dies and it was pretty easy to make. To make the outer "ring" part, I nested and cut two Heirloom Ornaments dies - die #5 and die #4 (die #1 being the smallest). I then folded each in the middle and then adhered one side to another until it made the whole ornament -the outer ornament uses 6 pieces. The center ornament was made the same way and also uses 6 pieces. To decorate it, I die cut glitter cardstock with Create A Flake Four snowflake dies, cut them randomly and adhered. I also added a bead of stickles along each outer ornament "ring" for extra sparkle. I don't have any step shots of this ornament, but I took some from a similar project that shows how it's done. These pictures are from an ornament that I used on a scrapbook page, so it was flat on the back and not circular like above, but you get the idea. First you score the ornament in half. Then you assemble assemble how many you want together and glue the sides together. After gluing the sides together, you can decorate any way you want. On the ornament above, I randomly placed snowflakes and trimmed off the excess. After you decorate your hat pin the way you want, you can adhere it to the inside of the ornament by wrapping it with Scor-Tape and squeezing it tightly. Check out the Spellbinders 2023 Black Friday Deals! They include several holiday die sets!! **UPDATE: This 10 year old post is getting traction. This die set has long been discontinued! You can find currently sold Ornament die sets HERE. I hope these gave you a visual on how to make these. They are pretty easy to make and you can make new ones every time you change the color scheme of your tree! Thanks for stopping by and have a great Monday!!

Вот и закончилось лето и уже не за горами Новый год! Для многих это самый любимый праздник в году и именно поэтому многие из нас стараются украсить свой дом к этому долгожданному дню по-особ
I fell in love with this bauble die from Memory Box when I saw it at Paperific a few weeks ago. I knew I wanted to cut it out of gold cardstock and put some patterned paper behind it. I will have to investigate whether Memory Box has a matching solid die, because cutting out the patterned paper by hand was annoying!! I'll be submitting this card to Moxie Fab World's "All that Glitters is Gold" challenge, and to CAS(E) this Sketch.
