100% ART
I debuted this series at The Other Art Fair in Brooklyn, June 2022: Watch Me Hunstle! This new series, entitled Mindscape, comprises ten abstract portraits depicting the interior of the subject’s mind. While traditional portraits focus on portraying an exterior likeness through representational realism, these paintings redirect the focus to the intangible atmosphere within. Each portrait illustrates the very real, yet invisible, interior layers of consciousness that make up who we are: chaotic, ephemeral, transient, and ever-changing. The series has two types of works, alternating between portraits that show the subject's face, and paintings that simply represent that which is held within a person, often unseen to the public. They can be viewed in pairs, sets, or as stand-alone pieces. Each painting utilizes a Chinese Watercolor technique whereby the artist creates an empty space in the composition as a portal allowing the viewers to enter the work visually. Once inside the Mindscape, they will encounter a marble-like resin gel striation leading them through fields of color and shape, a cascading meditative journey that perhaps allows them to find a greater connection with some of their own interior thoughts or emotions. These paintings confuse and distort the facial features, instead drawing the eye to the abstracted forms that seem to almost morph before them. In opposition to John Berger's famous conjecture, "seeing is believing,"—a narrative that has dominated Western art for many decades—I implore the viewer to consider that seeing is not always believing, because what you see on the outside doesn't always resonate with what's happening on the inside. –––––SPECIFICATIONS–––-- Artwork size: 24 x 32 inches (⅛ inch thick) Luxury Dibond Prints, Limited Edition of 5 Original Medium: Chinese Watercolor and Abstract Resin Gel Paint Print Medium: Gallery Grade White-Face Aluminum Dibond Metal Each luxury print comes with a signed certificate via email. MindScape 48 acrylic/collage/colored pencil on 12″x 12″ stretched canvas sold
This theory is exciting, inspiring, and life-changing; but HOW do we take control? This is my mission, to help myself and others understand how. Without the practical application of such magic, what good does it do us? The focus of my career is to help others sculpt their lives, to remap their own mindscape and shift reality to one in which mastery comes from inside, rather than outside.
The MINDSCAPE paintings, all on 12″ X 12″ canvasses, are a series of landscape-like images, all of which originated in my mind. None is an actual place or a specific reference, though …
