This Winter I took on building the Cameron Street Apartments structure by KC'S Workshop Craftsman Kits. This is an all basswood construction design, with some unpainted resin and cast metal detail parts and a wonderful kit, honestly I have not had this much fun building a structure like this in some time.

Diana Al-Hadid creates large-scale sculptures and installations that merge bodily forms with collapsing altars, columns, and other architectural forms. Headless bronze figures in repose appear to drip down concrete blocks, while organs surround fictional players like beautiful beasts. In each, the Syran-American artist references archaeological remains, creating ghostly figures that reference the ruins from societies past. In addition to traditional sculptural media like bronze, steel, and concrete, the artist also incorporates more experimental materials like beeswax, fiberglass, and foam. More

Matthew Simmonds (previously) sculpts miniature architectural structures from raw stone. Part of his interest in producing these pieces is centered around the contrast between the carved precision of his hand against the rough nature of the natural material he chooses for each work. The pieces’ concept also deals with this human influence on raw environments, humans physically displaying their beliefs and achievements by building large physical forms. “In my sculptures, I am concerned with the common human achievement; the cultural expressions thrown up by different societies, and how the various cultural traditions interact with and influence each other,” said Simmonds in an interview with Colossal. reproduced and re-imagined urban structures are assembled, drawn, cut, folded and glued together to showcase the range and depth of paper.
From his studio at Skeppsholmen, the small southern island in Stockholm, Christopher Robin Nordstrom constructs precise miniatures of Tokyo’s architecture. Flower shops, hair salons, and neighborhood police stations known as kōban are recreated at 1:20 scale from materials like MDF board, styrene plastic, wood, and brass. The tiny models are both quaint and true to city living: little air conditioners nestle into windows and autumn leaves float across the sidewalk, while trails of rust run down walls and street dirt splatters on doorways and facades. David Umemoto's modular cubic sculptures are studies of volume—at the juncture of sculpture and architecture . The miniature concrete structures are monumental and re-arrangable, conveying numerous images.
It’s daunting to witness the labor poured into a 365-day creative project, be it taking a daily photo, doing a quick sketch, or even writing a few lines. Edinburgh-based artist Charles Young (previously) gets particularly high marks for completing his daily paper model project that he started a year ago today as a way to explore design, architecture, and model building. Every single one of his 365 models was designed, cut, and assembled daily using 220gsm watercolor paper and PVA glue, with many of the structures incorporating moving components that Young photographed to create quick animations.
