I have been without a permanent work bench for about three years now. A couple of trips to the land of Ikea and some persistence, here is what I have come up with. Finally completed this afternoon. Now to unpack the tools and start building some models. Never though I would miss the smell of Tenax 7R. 📷 Construction Details The metal vertical shelving is from an "Edsal 30 in. W x 60 in. H x 12 in. D Steel Canning Shelving Unit". You can order them though Home Depot . They just do not carry them in the store. Think of them as an erector set, you don't have to put them together they way the picture is on the box. The Ikea Parts used are: ADILS Leg, Diameter: 1 5/8" Height: 27 1/2", 902.179.72 qty: 2 LINNMON Table Top, White, Size 59"x29-1/2" 202.511.39 BITRÄDE Shelving unit, White, Size 26-3/4"x53-1/8" 402.398.15 As sharp eye will note that the Ikea shelving unit is 3/4" shorter than the legs. So you have to add at least some 1x to the bottom of it to bring it up to the leg length. The legs have a foot that screws out for leveling. Since my basement floor is pretty uneven, I added some screw out feet and t-nuts to the bottom of the shelf as well. Rather than use the "cardboard" back that came with the shelves, I cut a piece of white hardboard (basically masontine panel prefinished white on one side) to go on the back. After gluing and nailing that make the shelving quite strong. Anther piece of the hardboard is used as a spacer between the shelf and table top. Because I am using the shelf on its "side" there is a small overhanging lip that keeps the table top from resting flat on the shelf. Regards, Kevin Jones

When I was 7 years old, I had some birthday vouchers to spend so Mum dutifully took me to the toy store where I spent probably an irritatingly long time agonising over which model kit I wanted to buy. I remember that my eyes were way bigger than my ability in model making at that age and I selected a huge kit of a white Landrover Defender as it was the biggest model my vouchers could afford. I slaved away with the polystyrene cement for days making a right mess, but eventually my kit was complete and stood pride of place on my parent's sideboard... that was until two days later when my five year old brother threw it on floor smashing it to pieces. How I cried. Fast forward 30+ years and I still occasionally build the odd model, but funnily it is my brother who is the real model making enthusiast, amassing a huge stash of rare and exotic model kits and building rather than smashing them these days. My interests focus on designing larger objects for Helmm and I spend most of this time at

The range of Hobbyzone workshop modules has become a firm favourite with Hobbies customers over the past few years. Model makers and craft makers alike enjoy having all their paints and tools laid out neatly, where they can be seen easily and accessed quickly. The finished workspace is always a thing of beauty. Now the range is being extended to include narrower 20cm wide modules. This allows you to be even more precise with the overall size of your workstation. The new 20cm wide module units that have been introduced include a 2 drawer module, a 4 drawer module, a bottles module, and a brushes & tools module. Both the 2 drawer module and 4 drawer module have windows made of acrylic glass which allow you to see the contents at a glance. The Bottles Module has three shelves for paints, bottles or other containers of different sizes. The Brushes and Tools Module has a lot of holes in different sizes for any tools or brushes etc. Use the supplied magnets to connect with other modules. You can always change the configuration of modules according to your workshop needs. Here are some great ideas for your new workspace. See the full range of Hobbyzone modules here

This PDF contains step-by-step build instructions, including detailed plans and a cut list, for making this rolling workbench with a cutout for a table saw. You'll also have access to a detailed SketchUp model of the entire project as well as my contact information for any questions during the build process. There are plans in both Imperial (feet and inches) and metric (meters and millimeters). This workbench is built with 2x4s and plywood and can be constructed with a drill and jigsaw (or handsaw). If you purchase these plans and find that they won't work for you, message me and I'll give you a refund. -- Frequently Asked Questions -- Q: How big is the finished workbench? A: The body of the workbench (without casters) is 96" long, 40" wide, and 32" tall. The top can be between 40" and 48" wide, depending on how much overhang you prefer. For the metric plans, the body of the workbench is 2400mm long, 1000mm wide, and 800mm tall. The top can be between 1000mm and 1200mm wide. Q: How much does it cost to build? A: Material prices vary based on location and market conditions, but at my local Home Depot (west coast United States), 2x4s are about $0.39/foot, and for this workbench, you need a total of 126 feet, or about $50 in 2x4s. For the top surface and bottom shelves, you can use MDF, plywood, or melamine, and you'll need two sheets. Prices range between $40-70/sheet, or about $110 in total, so the total lumber cost would be about $160, plus the cost of screws and casters. Q: What table saws can fit in this workbench? A: The design accommodates any saw up to 30” wide and up to 21” deep (front to back); the metric design accommodates any saw up to 730mm wide and up to 520mm deep.
