Escultor y pintor costarricense, afincado en México. Aprendió el oficio en el taller de su padre, Manuel Zúñiga Rodríguez, autor de imágenes religiosas y continuador de una tradición familiar de tallistas y escultores. En 1927 se matriculó en la Escuela de Bellas Artes de su ciudad natal, donde recibió lecciones de dibujo por poco tiempo. En el periodo 1928-1934 trabajó como ayudante en el taller familiar de escultura religiosa. En 1935 ganó el primer premio del Salón de Escultura en Costa Rica, con una imponente escultura en piedra que denominó La maternidad. Seducido por México, fijó en aquel país su residencia en 1936. Estudió diseño con Rodríguez Lozano y escultura con Oliverio Martínez, con quien colaboró para realizar los innovadores grupos escultóricos del monumento a la Revolución Mexicana. En 1938 fue nombrado profesor la escuela de Escultura y Talla Directa "La Esmeralda´", dirigida por Guillermo Ruiz, su fundador.
