Aves
If there is a bird that has personality it is the Spoonbill. Just look at the expression in his face. At one time these birds were almost completely wiped off the face of the earth so that their beautiful rose colored feathers could be used in something such as a very stylish hat. Their numbers were so low they had reached the extinction list, but this year I have seen 4-5 of them whereas just a couple of years ago I could only manage to keep track of one. Their population has a way to go, you will not see them in very many places, but I am very hopeful for their come back. They are characters, and they seem to be attracted to birds which are bigger than themselves such as the Wood Stork and Herons, as if they think they will protect them. They are called Spoonbills for good reason. They just move along, their heads going from side to side non-stop, constantly digging in the mud for bugs and plants. They have nerve endings in their bill that automatically opens the bill and scoops up food when it is detected.

If you are looking to identify a pink bird in Florida, check out these three species. While one is a true native of Florida the other two may be harder to find.
