I love this shadowing effect
A starling murmuration is a beautiful sight if you're lucky enough to see one in the wild. The birds flock together creating a hypnotising, synchronised cloud, that changes shape as the birds swoop and dive. Scottish artist, Dougie Harley who is now based in London is inspired by his love for all things nature to create these incredible Starling murmurations.

A murmuration of Starlings at Aqualate Mere on a December evening just prior to dusk. How these birds perform just prior to roosting really is a magnificent spectacle. Having arrived at the hide at 3pm it was around an hour before the first group of Starlings started to arrive. As the minutes then ticked by, small groups seemed to come from all directions to form a single huge group with numbers estimated at between 60 and 80 thousand. Their flight patterns were simply breathtaking. A big thanks to Angela Smith for bringing this to my attention, having never seen one before, it really was fantastic to watch.
