This carbatina is inspired by a specimen in the Museum of London. It is a one piece type shoe with a pattern (known as the Allendale from Vindolanda) that is also attested for nailed shoes of multi-piece construction. Dated to the late 1st/early 2nd cent. AD. There are quite a number of variations surviving from a multitude of sites. I personally like the visual lightness of the shoe. The majority of the upper doesn't really exist so to say, only the straps necessary to give it shape and style at the same time remain. The pattern easily allows many variations for potential wearers to pick their more individually preferred shoe, very much like what we see in fashion today.
