Normally on Wednesdays I like to share a video tutorial I've made, but this week it didn't work out - my videographer/husband had to do actual paid work! The nerve! Oh well, maybe next week. In the meantime, I thought I'd try something new! Those of you on Pinterest are aware of 'pinning' - and love it or hate it, it's chock full of new ideas. Whether it's crafts, recipes, decor, or just things that make you laugh, there's a pin for that. There's an overwhelming amount of stuff to sift through: some good, some bad. And Pinterest has certainly

This sign is perfect to add a bit of a personal touch and colour to any room. The sign is made from galvanised wire and then cover with cord made of 100% cotton yarn using the french knitting technique called Tricotin. Everything is 100% handmade by me on a small desk in the corner of my kids playroom (I know what a place for an office). The signs are very light and can be hung on a wall with a couple of small nails, 3M command hook or just display on a shelf. Please note: - Colours may look slightly different to how they look in the pictures. - These items are decorative only and must be kept out of the reach of children. If you have an idea but cant find it on may page, send me a message I will be happy to work together to create the perfect design. Made with Gedifra Fiorista colour-shaded yarn in about 3 different colourways on a 6"x6" Weavette hand-held loom. I completely forgot from the last time how long it takes to make one of these (answer: A long time). This was started last summer; the baby for whom it was made was born in October; the blanket was completed...in February. It was a bit of a re-learning curve, actually. It had been a long time since I made my last Weavette blanket, and also, for some reason, it never occurred to me that figuring out my tension would be an issue. Um, yes, well. So, for the record, cotton (or cotton blend with a tiny bit of polyester, as it is in this case) weaves completely differently from wool. It doesn't have the stretch or bounce, so you need to weave it much looser unless you want to get all sweary and bunched up at one end. I love the colours in this. The colours change in the Fiorista yarn very, very gradually, which means you can get a completely green square followed by a green and purple tweedy one, followed by something in pale lime with a few strands of purple, all from the same ball of yarn. I had trouble with the layout, and kept trying for random scatterings of the colours over the blanket. Eventually, though, I realised that the colours in the squares were random enough in themselves, so I decided to go for something a little more regular, thus the diagonal lines. Made for Thomas.

I grew up in woods filled with white oak trees. The big beautiful trees would drop their tiny capped seeds each season, covering the ground with a blanket of acorns. As I have experimented more with natural dyeing, I have discovered acorns produce incredible colors in the dye bath. On their own, the
Due to the weather we are stuck inside today, so I thought I would take a shot of one of my thimble cases. I have been thinking about some of the fun trips we have been on. My late Mother-in-law gave me the cases for a gift several years ago and I have had a lot of fun filling them. She loved to hear about our trips. It has been fun shopping for the thimbles in souvenir shops but they are getting harder to find.
Like many Korean families, artist Ema Shin’s relatives maintain a genealogy book called a jokbo, which illustrates their family tree. Shin’s ancestral record spans 32 generations, yet only male members of the family are represented. Born and raised in Japan, and currently based in Melbourne, Australia, the artist describes in a recent statement that “in the society that I was born and raised in, there was a prejudice between men and women, and their roles were predetermined. For Polina KAL join my group here on Ravelry! The KAL starts on January 26th and ends on April 14th. Polina pullover is inspired by the naive art of Ukrainian self-taught painter, Polina Raiko. Everything in her house — walls, ceilings, doors, and fence — Polina covered in enamel-painted drawings of fantastic birds and flowers, Christian iconography, and the artist’s own interpretations of her dreams and life events. Unfortunately most of her work is lost due to the flooding of the house after the destruction of Kakhovka dam in June 2023. Sadly, the war keeps destroying the cultural heritage of my homeland. So this is my humble love letter to her. The pullover is knit top-down in the round with a large botanical colourwork pattern on the yoke and a smaller one on the body and sleeves. The pattern also comes with three neck options: ruffled mock (as shown in my sample), double folded and a regular crew neck. You can take a closer look at my sample and learn more about the source of inspiration and design process in this podcast episode. Sizes The pattern is written for six sizes 1 (2, 3) (4, 5, 6) with a finished bust circumference of ca. 95 (111, 127) (143, 158, 174) cm // 38 (44.25, 50.75) (57, 63.25, 69.75) in incl. at least 10-15 cm (4-6 in) of the recommended positive ease. Surprisingly, there are quite a few displays of quality craftsmanship made in the least elegant, thoroughly bad design. Inspired by the subreddit Awful Taste But Great Execution, Bored Panda has collected a list of gaudy, tacky, overdone, and otherwise tasteless design fails yet done so well, you won't know whether to love or hate these funny things.
