This building is inspired by the weft of carpet and textile threads, which have a long-standing tradition in Iran of dyeing them, and silk threads with modern materials and a futuristic design. Designing a museum and gallery dedicated to carpets and textiles at the heart of Tehran encapsulates a fusion of traditional craftsmanship and modern architectural aesthetics.
Director Jon Kretzu is a master at capturing an audience's attention from the instant it enters the theater. Rather than sitting about in front of a yet-to-be-peopled set while waiting for the play to begin, we take our seats at Caryl Churchill's "Cloud 9" at Theatre Vertigo to a minimalist patch of green grass that holds, squarely at its center, a candy-red ball.
