I'm not sure if many of you have given this topic much thought, but do you prefer your pillows chopped (where you do a little karate chop to the top of the pillow, resulting in a V-shape), or do you prefer them rigid / straight across? I'm a chopper, hands down. I once chopped the pillows on my mother-in-law's brand-new sofa, assuming she'd love the look...but instead, she cringed in horror at the sight of me karate chopping her beautiful new {expensive} silk pillows. After this, I really started paying attention to the way people, friends, other designers, arranged their accent pillows. And now when you look through images of interiors, you'll begin to notice that it's either one or the other. I personally think the chopped look is more comfortable and inviting, versus rigid and straight...but then again, maybe I'm just being crazy! Do you have a preference? Please throw in your two-cents on this random topic! {Chopped Pillows} {Straight Pillows} {Chopped} {Straight} {Chopped} {Straight} {Chopped} {Chopped & Straight} {Slightly Chopped} {Straight} IMAGE CREDITS: DECORPAD; LONNY ***** Well, I'm heading off to Santa Barbara for the weekend for my best friend's wedding. We've been friends since the 2nd grade and I'm thrilled to be a part of her exciting day! She's getting married here, and the reception is in a venue overlooking the ocean. My husband and I are looking forward the drive up the coast , which is beautiful and relaxing. I hope you have a lovely weekend and I'll meet you back here next week. xoxo - Julie

We often have a thousand different thoughts and to-do's crowding our mind, and sometimes keeping track of what needs to be done can prove to be a challenge. Can you say multitask? I can't, some of us do it better than others, as for me... well let's just say "challenge" doesn't begin to cut it. *sigh* Sometimes we just need a place to jot ourselves a note to help remember the little things. So I tried a pin board in the office, and a task board in the kitchen, no dice, I still couldn't keep track. Finally it dawned on me that the one place I hadn't tried a task & reminder board was in my bedroom. I want my task board to be the first thing I see when I pry my eyes open in the morning, the last thing I glimpse at night (which makes my husband envious of a task board... *snicker*), and in easy reach when I wake up at 3 in the AM because my brain just won't stop. Sometimes you need to be able to jot yourself a note to have enough peace to go back to sleep. Bedroom Task & Reminder Board Much to my delight, this location made a difference! Who'd a thunk? Not only could I sleep more soundly at night, but lo' and behold it appears there is hope for me being task oriented yet! If you have a hard time keeping track of the little odd-end things-to-be-done, give it a go, perhaps it will help. Oooh, but I do have a few tips to make your task board all the better. One, be creative: I confess that the pin board I had previously used didn't really appeal to me nor did it inspire me to make the best use of it. So I thought I'd try something a little different, a framed task board. It gave me a chance to use my beloved stickies and dry erasers! A favorite glass framed picture, a mirror, or even a framed cork board can spice things up a bit. Two, make it pretty: I used a gorgeous wrapping paper instead of pictures. I didn't want it to be busy, so I covered a few sections with off-white paper and let the wrapping paper image show through from behind. Three, categorize your tasks: Don't be content with a messy board full of stickies, notes, and papers everywhere. Believe me, disorderly tasking doesn't make for order. I'm just saying... I created categories to more easily keep track of what needs to be done. I categorized by Blog Tasks, my dinner Menu Plan, a Miscellaneous Notes section, a To-Do List, and a Calendar.
Advice from Real Teachers Series Even if you love creating bulletin boards, chances are good that you don't have time to dream up a new bulletin board every month for all of the boards in your room. Wouldn't it be great to have at least one board that you could keep up all year and
We are in full Valentine's mode in our class. I have the heart manipulatives out and we are going to town on the Valentine's craftivities! I have been snapping pictures this week of some of the "love day" activities that we have been doing. When the kids finish their seat work, they can pick a manipulative or center off of the shelf to work on with a friend or independently. Here are some of the goodies... Here is one of my students matching the CVC word to the picture. They also can be used for matching the rhyming words. This activity is in my Valentine's Day Center Pack. I found these heart dice in the dollar bin at Target. The students roll the dice and add the numbers! For this activity the students matched the 20 frame with the correct number. This is a Valentine's 20 Frame Center that I made for the students to choose a number card, and they placed that many objects into the 20 frames. I made these felt hearts last year with felt and puffy paint. The students match the dots with the number. Our Valentine's Robots turned out so cute! The hearts say, "I like you a bot!" I also just shared a DIY Valentine's Center idea over at Top Teacher's Kinderland! Be sure to check it out!
Last spring, my computer desktops (both home and work) were covered with icons. I had tried organizing by putting selected items in certain areas, but that never lasted very long. A Pretty Organized Desktop at iheart organizing inspired me to research other organized desktops. After finding great ideas and suggestions at JenniferKeegin Dot Com and The Ney Life, I created the following desktop wallpapers; the first for my work computer and the second for my home computer. Some organized desktop wallpapers that I found were made with Microsoft Paint and others with expensive photo software. However, knowing that I just needed a photo to personalize my display, I chose to work with something that I knew - Microsoft PowerPoint. Here are some of the wallpapers that I created using Microsoft's backgrounds on a PowerPoint slide. You can download these ready to use wallpapers and wallpapers that can be personalized by clicking here OR scroll down to see how to make your own. Choose a color for your background and add shapes with no fill. This was easily made by using shapes and text boxes. These apple themed backgrounds were free, along with many other backgrounds, at Microsoft.com - just add category labels. Use favorite photos. To create your own organized desktop using Microsoft PowerPoint add a background to a PowerPoint slide - make sure that you are using the landscape orientation. Note that if this is going on a large screen (not a laptop), in PowerPoint, go to the Design tab and go to Page Setup. Under Slides sized for choose Ledger Paper. choose category labels select the font, font size, and font color save the PowerPoint as a JPEG File Interchange Format On your computer* go to Control Panel under Appearance and Personalization choose Change Desktop Background find your saved background picture select Stretch under Picture Position save your changes and start organizing your desktop! * These instructions were written for those using a computer with Windows 7. On computers running other versions of Windows or on Apple computers, follow the instructions for personalizing your computer's wallpaper. If you are using two monitors or a have added a second monitor to your laptop, the new desktop screen will show exactly the same on both monitors (Unless you have Windows 8). I didn't want to see a second set of labels so covered the second set with the Sticky Notes found on Microsoft Windows 7. I love having my "To Do list," blog ideas, and other important things to remember on my desktop! This system has kept my desktops organized for almost four months. However, I do have one important warning. Items on your desktop can be easily lost if your computer crashes. As with all files, make sure that you back-up frequently! Diana © 2013
