Summer is here! And that means loads of time for kids to experience books in all their glory. This is also a great time to encourage kids to read the books they choose (without having to worry about school assignments) and to try out new genres that they might be interested in learning more about. This series will offer titles for toddlers to teens and include a variety of formats. Each week will focus on a different genre and will follow the same format: Mondays – Titles for Ages 3-7 Tuesdays – Middle Grade Titles for Ages 8-12 Wednesdays – Young Adult Titles for Ages 13+ Thursdays – Nonfiction pairings Friday – Recap of the Week Picture Books Chalk by Bill Thomson Three kids find a bag of chalk on a rainy day in the park and start to draw. What happens next is magical! Draw! by Raúl Colón “A boy named Leonardo begins to imagine and then draw a world afar — first a rhinoceros, and then he meets some monkeys, and he always has a friendly elephant at his side. Soon he finds himself in the jungle and carried away by the sheer power of his imagination.” (Taken from Goodreads) Mr. Wuffles! by David Wiesner A cat isn’t so interested in toy  mice and catnip, rather he’s interest in the alien space ship that just crash landed behind the radiator. A Sick Day for Amos McGee by Philip C. Stead Amos, a zookeeper, takes good care of the animals, so when Amos is sick and can’t come to work, the animals go to take care of their friend. Uni the Unicorn by Amy Krouse Rosenthal “In this clever twist on the age-old belief that there’s no such thing as unicorns, Uni the unicorn is told there’s no such thing as little girls!” (Taken from Goodreads) A Unicorn Named Sparkle by Amy Young Lucy sends away for a unicorn and when he arrives, he’s not quite what she expected, but she soon realizes he might just be exactly what she needs.
