Everyday objects take an unusual turn in Nancy Fouts‘ bizarre sculptures. Playing with unexpected combinations of violence and peace, the natural and manmade, interiors and exteriors, Fouts challenges viewers to rethink the categories we habitually place different objects in. The American-born, London-based artist studied at the Chelsea School of Art and the Royal College of Art. Prints of some works are available on Artsy, and you can find out more about Fouts in the video below by Black Rat Projects. More

Architect and graphic designer Katerina Kamprani has created a series of household items that are designed so horribly that make us appreciate good design a lot more. She calls this series "The Uncomfortable".
Nobody I talk to under the age of 40 knows the work of Neil Winokur, which is odd in light of the 68-year-old photographer’s achievements: His work has been collected by the Museum of Modern Art, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the LA County Museum.
With creative ideas and a little bit of imagination, what seems to be, a dull and casual environment can become cool and whimsical. And if someone ever called you out for seeing a happy electrical socket or a sad faucet, remember that you are not out of step with the real world - you just have a vivid imagination that helps you capture the fun around you!

Product designers are often preoccupied with making objects that are as useful as possible. However, Katerina Kamprani, an Athens-based architect and 3d modeller, has created a series of everyday objects called “The Uncomfortable” where just the opposite is true.
Inspired by the curvy lines of a hand sketch drawing, the Squiggle desk organizer twists and turns from top to bottom. Bent from a single piece of premium grade plywood, its four compartments allow you to store and separate items and accessories of different sizes, such as pens, pencils, scissors, crayons, brushes, cables, erasers, sharpeners, rulers, etc.

The Uncomfortable is a series of impractical household objects by Athens-based architect Katerina Kamprani. The infuriating works play off of common dishware, cutlery, and watering cans, making the task each is typically assigned either impossible or extremely difficult. Every object is created from the material it would be constructed from normally, making siamese wine glasses and linked ceramic mugs all the more humorous. Often before Kamprani creates the physical object, she will create a 3D model to test its shape. More

I’ll never forget the excitement I felt the first time I disassembled a telephone. I was eight years old, on our back porch with just an old screwdriver and a pair of pliers, but seeing what was inside this everyday object was a discovery akin to unearthing a dinosaur. The sudden knowledge that the speaker part was magnetic and contained a mile of thin copper wiring was practically miraculous. When the day was over, I was surrounded by pieces of am/fm radio, an old handheld video game, and a toy car, none of which would ever be assembled again, but that really wasn’t the point. More

Many artists strive to find their signature style by creating new techniques, materials and concepts, but Italian artist Benedetto Demaio went for something more abstract. He chose to tie his work into one consistent body by incorporating a turquoise color scheme into every composition he does.
