This week, the Toronto archives had me browsing vintage train photographs. There were a ton of photos so I had to cut it down to 60 of my favourites.
Milan had some lovely old wooden Trams. Far more character that the modern equivalent. We used the number 1 which passed outside our hotel. Within 10 minutes we were whisked to the centre of Milan. Very efficient.. Oh and sorry for the name.......
An old photograph taken at the Old Market Place of Grimsby Corporation Tramways (GCT) car No. 42. The photograph reverse is stamped as it having been taken by 'Burrows' (I think Burrows Bros. rather than V. E. Burrows). No. 42 was ex Sunderland District Electric Tramways balcony car No. 17, built in 1913 by Brush seating 22/29 and running on a Brush flexible AA truck. It was bought by GCT in 1925, being withdrawn from service just prior to the Grimsby system closing. The parts of the Sunderland District tramways system that had not already been withdrawn or transferred to bus operation closed in Jul 1925. The parts of the Grimsby tramways system that had not already been withdrawn or transferred to trolleybus/bus operation closed in Mar 1937. If there are any errors in the above description please let me know. Thanks. 📷 Any photograph I post on Flickr is an original in my possession, nothing is ever copied/downloaded from another location. 📷 -------------------------------------------------
Siemens has teamed up with Volvo Group to test the feasibility of an 'eHighway' electric truck system that uses overhead wires for power, much like trams

An old photograph taken at 'The Hop Exchange', Southwark, of London Transport (LT) tram No. 2053 showing '72 - Abbey Wood via Kennington & Westr' destination blinds. The photo reverse is stamped with the photographer (and/or negative owner) name of Robert F. Mack (Bob Mack). No. 2053 was ex 'Walthamstow Urban District Council Light Railways' ('Walthamstow Corporation Tramways' from 1929) car No. 62 built in 1927 by Hurst Nelson seating 27/42 and running on Heenan & Froude maximum traction swing bolster type trucks. It was built for running on overhead and conduit so was fitted with two trolley poles and a truck mounted plough carrier, being similar in design to the LCC E/1 class. Its ownership transferred to the London Passenger Transport Board (LPTB) in 1933 when it was moved to Holloway, working from there until the closure of their services in 1938. It then went to Bow for a short time before moving to South London where it worked from various depots being withdrawn from service in Feb 1952 and sent to Penhall Road Works to be disposed of (broken up or sold). The parts of the London tramways system that had not already been withdrawn or transferred to trolleybus/bus operation closed in Jul 1952. Tram route 72 closed 10/11 Jul 1951 and was replaced by buses on service No. 186 which took a slightly different route to the one it replaced. If there are any errors in the above description please let me know. Thanks. 📷 Any photograph I post on Flickr is an original in my possession, nothing is ever copied/downloaded from another location. 📷 -------------------------------------------------

Railway Preservation Australian Trams in the USA
