Hedgerows offer fields a needed balance, a wild river that can soak up our excesses and give us a reservoir of food and fuel for lean times.

Stanley Spencer ‘Landscape, Gloucestershire’, oil on canvas, 1940. Probably the most popular and requested image over at the @RatherGoodArt Twitter account, this highly detailed Spencer painting of a Gloucestershire hillside and fields exudes appeal. The range of greens is eye-catching, the isolated cottage, the gap in the hedgerow leading to the next field, the blue sky with a hint of a raincloud – all these elements combine to stop the viewer in their tracks to take it all in. While considering this painting as part of our forthcoming art print range, we thought we’d release an A5 version (A5 = 5.83 inches by 8.27 inches, or 14.81 centimetres by 21.01 centimetres) accompanied by a smaller, more portable standard A6 postcard size to prop on a shelf, use as a bookmark, or even post to a friend. Printed on 310gsm card stock using high-quality inks.

Bustle in the Hedgerow is one of a series of paintings celebrating the harvest, with particular reference to Lincolnshire, but could be anywhere there are fields and hedgerows. The hedgerows in Lincolnshire are harvested for blackberries in the autumn. The wide verges of the Lincolnshire wolds are teeming with life, hence the title. Framed in a natural wood float frame.

Herefordshire is perfect for a lazy autumn break, with meandering valleys, rolling apple orchards and magical light. Here are my tips on what to see and do.
Over the past few months we have been tasked with many hedgerow reduction projects where trees and brambles have encroached over fences and into field corners. Had you ever realised how much land may have been lost over time as the vegetation crept in? Take a look below at some of the before and after […]
Hedges - more than just a boundary..Hedgerows do much more than just mark field boundaries. Some of the benefits they provide are easy to see – they provide shelter for livestock, food for wildlife, carbon storage, corridors for species to move between habitats, and are an important habitat in their own right. What is less obvious is the important role they play in the wider landscape, and in particular how they help to improve the quality and quantity of water in our rivers and streams.

Despite the Coronavirus pandemic stifling access to the countryside in April 2020, nature continues on and the green hillside landscapes of Ireland are looking lush right now. Green is of course the colour most people associate with Ireland with its fields of grass, hedgerows and woodlands filled with deciduous and coniferous trees. Sometimes it is misty and rugged like this scene, sometimes bright and lush like this one. While we can't get out and about with current restrictions, it is possible to take a private, one-to-one photography session online with Panoramic Ireland, that's me by the way, via this page: https://panoramicireland.com/photography-workshops-ireland/online-photography-class-tutorial-professional-photographer
18 prints all framed and wrapped and on their way to Birmingham. Looking forward to seeing the exhibition and meeting Emma Hardicker at the PV on August 1st at The Bond Cafe Gallery Stef Mitchell The Bond Cafe Gallery Impressions of Nature Emma Hardicker Stef Mitchell Observations of nature has been a popular focus for artists throughout history and with the invention of the printing press in the Middle Ages this inspired a strong tradition of depicting nature through art and craft culminating with the superb work of William Morris. Emma Hardicker and Stef Mitchell continue this tradition but with contemporary sympathies. With both artists their focus is not purely on the depiction of nature and the botanical. Emma and Stef are equally concerned with conveying the sense of place of their experiences and integral to both artists practice is the act of walking and experiencing nature, they draw inspiration through this process which feeds and informs their creativity in the medium of print. Both artists choose differing techniques with Stef utilising Mono Printing, collecting flaura and fauna along the way to use in the creation of her meticulous prints. Emma sketches from nature and from these she employs Silk Screen Printing to create intricate and detailed prints. The resulting artworks from these different printing methods are remarkably akin to each other, both artists capture the essence of their experiences and as viewers we are offered a fascinating insight into the artists own relationship with the environments that they walk within.
