Saint Theodore Tiron is a great martyr of the Orthodox Church and because of a miracle related to his life, he occupies a special place in the devotional tradition of Orthodoxy. This particular icon comes from a cell of the Pachomaeans on Mount Athos (the Pachomaeans are the name of a brotherhood of monks, which carries an enduring tradition with iconic works in orthodox iconography). This copy has been executed in a very distinctive way, being decorated with clay motifs, which have been incorporated into the frame of the icon. "Vine And Branches" is an original counted blackwork design for HAND EMBROIDERY, inspired by Coptic motifs in an antique needlework book, "cross" and "vine" designs in use throughout the history of Christianity, and by the celebration of the Great Feast of Pentecost in the Holy Orthodox Church. The original set was worked in green silk (the Liturgical color for Pentecost) on white linen, but may be worked in the colors of the stitcher's choice. This is an exclusive pattern for heirloom gifts to your church - as far as I can discover, there is nothing comparable available elsewhere. THIS PDF PATTERN contains charts for the COMPLETE SET OF ALTAR VESTMENTS- the ALTAR CLOTH, the AER (chalice veil) and the CHALICE COVERS. DIMENSIONS - Charted for 14 stitches/inch. ALTAR CLOTH - 39" center square, 19.85" drop side panels. Approx. 79" square total. AER is approx. 27.85"wide by 19"high. CHALICE COVER size is MINIMUM 5.3" center, 6.7" long drop on side panels.
