Here are some photos and plans that I found online that inspire some of my ideas... The first inspirational house plan I came across: I do think this portico is a bit too big for the house, but was worth referring to: this one is more proportionate - and contemporary: This is not a raised ranch, but the portico and decorative roofline behind it are very similar to what we have planned: I wish we had room to move the garage to the side of the house instead of under: How about this home plan idea? Just kidding!!! - but it did come up in the search of split level plans! lots more split level plans here
This split foyer was given more than a face lift, it was given a whole new second floor addition changing its style to a Colonial, so this growing family can stay in their neighborhood. Call Owings Brothers Contracting to add an addition to your home. 410.781.7022
Moving from a tiny apartment in the city to a small suburban house a few years ago, one thing I didn’t realize I would have to get used to again was having a flight of stairs. Need a pair of socks? Run up the stairs. Forgot your earrings? Stairs again. Having two floors is wonderful, but part of me still misses my bedroom being on the same level as (actually, just a few steps away from) the kitchen.

A 1960's outdated raised ranch receives a fresh facade, modern open concept living area, and master bedroom suite.
So I just dropped of the radar. Yeah....12 hour days kind of put blogging on the back burner....and yes I agree..... pretty rude of me. Seriously though..... I just couldn't find the time to multi task with this one. Partly because Cari and Greg had just moved in their new house and there was no furniture or internet. More on that later:) We left Atlanta on Monday and got to the house around 5 pm..... placing most of the furniture that evening. Let's start from the beginning.... This little beauty..... Which got a coat of BM Kendall Charcoal. New railing and garage doors. Replaced the funky window over the garage.... House numbers will be on the stained wood wall. Before After The stairway....before After A little Cole and Sons wallpaper always helps:) Looking down.... Before image as you came up the stairs.... The wall was opened up about 4 feet since the doorway to the kitchen was so small. There was a lot of discussion about whether to just remove this whole wall to open up the kitchen and family room....but we really needed it for the fridge and some cabinets. Added a little shiplap to the wall.... There just wasn't anything left to go on this wall so I left it clean....#eyeneedsaplacetorest #iwastiredbythen Before After cabinets were removed! After All Kitchenaid appliances. Before I can't believe the sink was not under the window?? After Custom iron brackets and the butcher block shelves are from Ikea. The light is from Hinkley Rug is from Surya. It really turned out to be quite a nice size kitchen. The cabinets and countertops [raw concrete] are from Ikea Before Wider opening and painted all the doors which I will get the color for you! I can't remember right now. #braindead My favorite Grohe K7 faucet. Hello cute little mini watermelons....:) Hardware from Build.com Before After This is your basic classic kitchen....timeless! Well? You likey? So this is what we saw every evening when we came home... They moved about 7 miles outside of Boulder....and their are 11 cows a few feet from their property! And they did not want to take any of their old furniture with them....because they want new! Ahhhhh.....youth. Of course there is more and we will get to it soon...I promise I won't leave you hanging:) Thanks for hanging with me. Shaywornout
One of the best ways to get some outdoor livable square footage for you and your family to enjoy is to add a porch awning to your home's exterior design.
Split-level houses were most popular in the 1950s. Are you considering purchasing a split-level house? Or do you currently own a split-level house? The idea of split-level housing might seem dated, but these types of houses can easily be modernized and re-decorated. We've looked into this and found some great ideas. In contrast to traditional […]
I’m a very bad blogger. I’m awful at posting regularly and I feel terrible about it. I even managed to let my very first blogiversary pass by without positing!! Boooooo me. So since I’m almost a month late on that major milestone, I decided I’d try and make it up to all of you by finally starting a proper house tour of our casa. I’ve shown some rooms here and there, and you’ve probably seen all the spaces while I was posting about projects and what not {because let's be serious...our house isn't that big}, but I just won’t be satisfied until I can add a “House Tour” tab to my blog. ;) Plus, I really like taking a step back and seeing how far our little ranch has come in a year. Sometimes you can get caught up in how much more you want to do, and easily forget how far you’ve already come. Here’s a quick refresher on how things went down for us. We closed on our home in August 2011, the day before Hurricane Irene hit. We took out a rehab loan to purchase our house so we could buy and renovate the main floor. We started working on painting and cleaning up the exterior in August and the interior demo began the last couple days of September 2011. That is also when I started this lil' blog. Our renovations took a couple months {although it felt like years}, and we were finally able to move into our home on Christmas Eve 2011. I figure I’ll start our home's tour in the “great” room of our house. This space used to have a defined entry/hallway, living/dining room combo and kitchen. We quickly changed that closed-off space to make it more "us". So without further delay, here are entirely too many pictures of one area in our home. View from the front door... View into the living room... View from the corner of the living room... View into the living room towards the front of the house... View from the fireplace towards the front door... View from the living room toward the basement stairs... View towards the front door... View twoards the bedrooms and bathrooms... View into the dining room... View from the old kitchen entrance... View from dining room corner toward the front door... View from fireplace towards kitchen entrance... View into kitchen from hallway entrance... View from kitchen, towards the dining room... View from dining room entrance to hall entrance... View from hallway towards the kitchen/dining/living rooms... So what do you say...do my bagillion pictures of the same-space-from-every-angle-possible make up for my sporadic posting schedule?!?! I'm praying the answer to that is yes, and in return I will give you a totally non-creepy Internet hug and hopefully post more house tour pictures before Thanksgiving rolls around. ;) Kidding!! {Sort of.}
We all know that curb appeal is important to the look, feel, and resale of our home, but changing our home's exterior is easier said than done. Whether you can only afford a few cans
