If the internet’s something like the collective unconscious of humankind, then it says a lot about us if we’re both incredibly brilliant and WTF-level weird all at once.

WikiHow is an online database of how-to instructions that aims to empower everyone in the world to learn anything they desire. However, it’s not only a useful resource for learning but also for funny content. With over 249K articles uploaded so far, there are some pretty niche instructables available, such as: “How to Make People Think You’re Immortal” or “How to Apologize to a Cat.” It’s no wonder that wikiHow memes emerge from such peculiar content.

Are you explicitly teaching morphology in your classroom, but need more resources? These 132 fluency grids are the perfect way to give your children the exposure they need to understand morphology. These fluency grids include Anglo-Saxon, Latin, and Greek affixes. Why use fluency grids? We know that in order to become proficient readers, our students need ample practice with the skills we’ve taught them, both in and out of context. With fluency grids, students practice targeted skills. Each row repeats the same 7 words. Can the student read the target words fluently by the final row? Great for independent reading practice, reading to a teacher, or taking home! How to Use Fluency Grids: There is no single correct way to read fluency grids. In general, I will either echo read or choral read the first line, then ask students to read the remaining lines on their own. Since there are 6 rows, you could easily gamify this by adding dice! Have students number the rows, roll a dice and read the row that correlates with their roll. Another step that is crucial: meaning. When teaching morphology, we ask students to grapple with how morphemes can change the meaning of words. Before asking students to read independently, I strongly recommend you discuss the meaning of the words. Ideas for discussing meaning: •Define each word in kid-friendly definitions. •Ask yes or no questions with the words: Ex. Should you be unsafe at school? •Ask students to generate sentences with the target words, with or without sentence frames. •After reading the rows, ask students to write 1-2 sentences using the words from the fluency grid.
