Old General Store (Walter S. Davis, architect), Palos Verdes Estates 13 October 2013 Yellow Vase Cafe is a local chain with 4 locations on the peninsula, offering breakfast and lunch. We ate breakfast there today, and headed down to RAT beach for a walk after. My husband remembers shopping in this building when he was a kid at which time it was the General Store.
That's where Ted Rivera said he'd be when I called, as I hiked down the cliff to Abalone Cove. I didn't know what he meant till I got there and saw him at the top, setting up for this shot with his Big Stopper. I was fascinated with the rock layers so I decided to take a few shots while waiting for the sunset. They came out looking almost HDR, but the only thing I really did was use a 3-stop soft GND at an angle to hold back the sky a little. I did have to brighten up the top of the cliff afterward in post-processing, but I couldn't figure out how to make the rest of the image not look so HDR-ish. I took a similar shot later after the sun had set and the sky was on fire, but the GND filter effect on the cliff came out too dark to be recovered. Oh, well...
