Penketh was originally a hamlet of Great Sankey. There was a family called Penketh that lived in Penketh Hall from around 1216 to 1624. One of the first mentions of the Penketh family was William de Penketh who was witness to a charter in 1240. ... Thomas Penketh was a friar and Head Hermit of St. Augustine, England.
