Martin Clayton on Instagram: "Parmigianino, studies of dogs, c.1530, in the Royal Collection. Parmigianino seems to have had an unusual fondness for dogs, which appear often in his drawings, sometimes in affectionate or even comical contexts. But here the main study has a remarkable dignity, in strict profile and with blank eyes evoking classical sculpture. The drawing has in the past been attributed to Agostino Carracci and to Bartolomeo Passarotti, no doubt because of the formal penwork. #p
