Since the early 1970's, he has developed a boldly graphic photojournalism, documenting the male ego as a signature style in all his work. During the 1980's, Makos was a seminal figure in the New York art scene, where he was responsible for introducing the work of both Jean-Michel Basquiat and Keith Haring to Andy Warhol. His photographs have been the subject of numerous exhibitions both in galleries and museums, with works shown at the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao and New York's Whitney Museum.

"A camera alone does not make a picture. To make a picture you need a camera, a photographer and above all a subject. It is the subject that determines the interest of the photograph." - Oct. 2, 1966 (Handwritten and signed note) [ 9 Days of Photokina "Man Ray on the Future !" Man Ray (August 27, 1890 – November 18, 1976), born Emmanuel Radnitzky, was an American artist who spent most of his career in Paris, France. Perhaps best described simply as a modernist, he was a significant contributor to both the Dada and Surrealist movements, although his ties to each were informal. Best known in the art world for his avant-garde photography, Man Ray produced major works in a variety of media and considered himself a painter above all. He was also a renowned fashion and portrait photographer. He is noted for his photograms, which he renamed "rayographs" after himself. While appreciation for Man Ray's work beyond his fashion and portrait photography was slow in coming during his lifetime, especially in his native United States, his reputation has grown steadily in the decades since. Andy Fields (pictured) bought the illustration that Warhol drew when he was a child from a drug user in Las Vegas. He says experts have valued it at £1.3million but as it is such a rare piece of work it could fetch ten times as much.
