Abbie draws parallels between coming out of a season of ease and going through difficulty cyclically, comparing it to a blacksmith's curing process. How do you interpret this analogy? Can you relate to this experience in your own life? Abbie discusses society's focus on ease and fun, often at the expense of relationships and family. Do you agree with her assessment? How do you see this playing out in today's culture? Abbie acknowledges the challenges of fulfilling various roles, such as being a parent, spouse, family member, and friend. How do you navigate these challenges in your own life? What strategies do you employ to find balance and maintain your well-being? Abbie emphasizes that just because something is difficult, it does not mean it is bad. How do you approach difficult situations or tasks in your life? Do you find it challenging to shift your perspective and embrace the difficulties as opportunities for growth? Abbie discusses the importance of seeking and accepting help when struggling, as well as the tendency to dwell in our struggles instead of utilizing the help that is available. Can you think of a time when you resisted asking for help, and how did that impact your situation? How can we overcome the fear or reluctance to ask for help? Abbie shares her personal experience of initially not finding parenthood enjoyable, but how it has since brought her much joy. Can you relate to this experience? How have your perspectives on parenthood or challenging situations evolved over time? Be the most popular mom in your co-op. Get your Schoolhouse Rocked merch here. Hexagonal Thinking: a valuable tool for teaching Serial, Season 1. This resource provides teachers with two different options for using hexagonal learning in their classrooms. Option #1 includes using blank hexagon templates that require student generated titles based on their own understanding of Serial. Option #2 includes 21 pre-filled hexagons that feature Serial specific locations, people, and thematic ideas. Both options are amazing in that they: Encourage creative thinking: Hexagonal thinking encourages students to think creatively and outside the box. By arranging hexagons in different patterns, students are challenged to come up with unique connections between different ideas or concepts. Promote collaboration: Hexagonal thinking can be done individually or in groups, and it encourages collaboration and discussion among students. By working together to arrange the hexagons, students can share their ideas and build on each other's thinking. Develop critical thinking skills: Hexagonal thinking requires students to analyze and evaluate concepts, and to make connections between different ideas. This helps to develop critical thinking skills and the ability to think logically and systematically. Support active learning: Hexagonal thinking is an active learning technique that engages students in the learning process. By physically arranging the hexagons and manipulating the concepts, students are more likely to remember the material and develop a deeper understanding of it. Overall, hexagonal thinking is a valuable tool for teaching Serial because it encourages creativity, promotes collaboration, develops critical thinking skills, and supports active learning. And if we’re being REALLY HONEST, the main reason I think hexagonal learning is the bomb is there isn’t one “correct” way to arrange a hexagonal web; they can be arranged and rearranged in ways that are as unique as each of your amazing students. Buy, print, assign, and enjoy this resource--you won’t be disappointed. Teaching Serial?
