Old travel Blog photograph of a Spectators enclosure at the Airshow in Prestwick, Ayrshire, Scotland. Prestwick Airport used to host a bi-annual airshow, the first of which was held on 30 September 1967. While very small in scale compared to such shows as RAF Fairford or Farnborough, the Scottish air show attracted up to 100,000 spectators to Prestwick in its heyday in the 1980s. The last air show was in 1992. All photographs are copyright of Sandy Stevenson, Tour Scotland, and may not be used without permission. View the most recent Tour Scotland photographs.
Signed, stamped, hand titled and mounted print of original illustration by Mark McPhelim. 'Prestwick Promenade' The landscapes, colours and settings of Scotland's coastline have been the inspiration for my Coast series. We visit, holiday and walk the many beautiful sea edge regions and they offer a wide variety of terrain and atmosphere. All year round. Each illustration in the series offers a wee story and an imaginative view of life by the coast. Using small, cosy crofts; vast deep, cold seas and lush, vivid Scottish landscape palettes. I hope you enjoy this colourful mix of real life and fictional settings and they allow your mind to drift and wander, as they did for me! Complete size: 25.5cm x 25.5cm Print size: 10.5cm x 10.5cm Pre-mounted, board-backed and within a sealed, transparent protective sleeve. 24 junior sailors made the journey to a very sunny Prestwick Sailing Club for an Optimist, Topper & Feva youth regatta on the 3rd & 4th of June. It was the Scottish Championships for the Optimist fleet, with 10 sailors competing across the main and regatta fleets. A very light breeze arrived on the Saturday and the decision was made to postpone by an hour. The fleet eventually launched and after an epic hour sail to the start line, the breeze had built enough to get proceedings under way. Sunday dawned and again the breeze did not play ball. After a 30-minute postponement the fleet launched, and racing got under way with Isla MacLeod joining the main fleet. Thanks to Prestwick Sailing Club for hosting the event and full results can be found at www.prestwicksailingclub.co.uk/results The fleet moves onto the fabulous venue of Loch Tummel Sailing Club on the weekend of the 17th and 18th June for the next event, which is part of the RYA Scotland Youth and Junior Championships. There is a main fleet and a coached regatta fleet aimed at all levels of sailing and the Scottish Optimists look forward to seeing you there. Not sure if it is for you? Drop us a line at Scottish Optimist Sailing and Racing on Facebook with any questions.
