It's the kind of brief that only comes along every so often – the chance to overhaul the look and feel of a magazine that's been doing its thing for more than two decades. First published in 1985, _Spin_ is devoted to unearthing new musical talent and exploring the trends and themes that go hand-in-hand with musical culture. Area 17 was tasked with "the re-conceptualisation of the visual identity, as well as mobile, website and iPad design" and working with "Everything Type Company":http://everything-type-company.com/ they've nailed it with a clean, creative design that dovetails with the mag's stated aim of being "aspirational not elitist, enthusiastic yet discerning."

Last Friday (2 March), The Breeders released their fifth record, _All Nerve_. The album, the band’s first release in ten years, sees its only permanent member Kim Deal bring together the band’s classic line-up, one which cemented The Breeders’ fanbase in 1993 with the release of _Last Splash_. This reunion is coupled with another in terms of design, as Kim chose to work with longstanding collaborator, designer Chris Bigg. As a result, _All Nerve’s_ album artwork displays the relationship of two creatives who appear to enjoy translating sound into visuals as much as the other.

Rotterdam-based Studio Dumbar have been producing excellent work for more than three decades and their recently-relaunched website gave us a fantastic chance to remind ourselves of their talents. Their portfolio is choc full of brilliant stuff but it was these award-winning posters for The Amsterdam Sinfonietta that really turned our heads.
