Coding is an essential skill in the digital curriculum for 21st Century learners. Coding is the ability to create instructions that allow a set of actions to be carried out. This resource gives an opportunity to expose junior students to the world of coding using the user friendly coding app Scratch Jr. The resource doesn't require a device or access to the internet. Students can cut and past the missing pieces of code into a command to achieve the desired outcome on the worksheet. The extra challenge with this activity is that there is an extra superfluous block. The students need to decide which block is not needed to complete the code. The resource has 2 activity sheets (2 levels of difficulty with the same task), answer sheet and teacher notes. My kids thought about peace this week in honor of MLK Jr. This question was my inspiration. I found it on Pinterest but couldn't find its owner. I made this simple little sheet, which we used in addition to Writing Workshop, not in replace of. (Writing prompts are used rather sparingly in my classroom. In fact, this is the first one of the year.) I see people picking trash. I see reading. I see sharing with my friends. I see people praying. I see people helping each other. Click on the picture for a copy. This wasn't easy for all of them by any means, but they didn't let me down. I really enjoyed seeing what peace looked like in those brains of theirs. I think Martin Luther King, Jr. would be proud.
Product Description Acuity - The Game of Sharp Vision & Keen Thought! For reinforcing visual-spatial skills, pattern recognition, and quick mental processing, Acuity is a brilliant choice! – And full of zest too! Players must race against each other – or work together – to discover and match hidden patterns in the tiles' arrangement. First, 36 wonderfully durable and vibrantly mind-bending pattern tiles are set out in a grid. Then, it's up to you to match them up with the remaining 34 tiles. However – Here's the kicker: None of the tiles actually match. Not one... All 70 are different! In order to find matching patterns, players have to look at either the two adjacent sides of two tiles or the four adjacent corners of four tiles. Search, scrutinize, analyze, and try your best not to get hypnotized by the vibrant and vivid patterns as you match up as many tiles as possible. Suddenly stumped? Certain that no match exists? Don't worry – Players can also turn one tile one quarter of a turn to make one. Whoever can match the most tiles wins the game! Stunningly fun for the eyes and the brain, plus – no reading required! – Acuity is a brilliant, brain-busting experience the whole family will enjoy. Product Description 2017 Parents' Choice Award Winner - Gold Get your brain cranking! The object is simple: build a puzzle solution between the red gear and the yellow wheel. When the gear teeth interlock, you'll be able to turn the wheel and send the whole contraption spinning! Start by choosing a puzzle of your choice (there are four levels of difficulty!). Slide the card under the clear grid, then place the red gear and yellow wheel as indicated. Each puzzle will show you an array of colors and sizes of gears, and how many of each you'll need (you'll see them printed along the bottom of the card). Pull those out (you MUST use all of them!). Now: solve that puzzle! Think you’ve solved the puzzle? Give the yellow wheel a turn and see if your contraption spins! If the red gear spins along with all of the gears you MUST use, you have just engineered a solution to the puzzle! If not, return to your design board and give your problem-solving skills another whirl! Crankity Brainteaser It's a gear-connecting, brainteasing contraption Encourages problem-solving, critical thinking, concentration Get your brain cranking!
