I'm finally reunited with my lap top again after its little accident with a cup of tea! It is so nice to get it back again, and I will be so careful in future. I therefore have quite a lot to report, where to start? Well, I think it will be my trip to London, a week or so ago now, combined with visits to my good friends in London and Bedfordshire. London was great, I love to visit and managed to pack quite a bit in. I arrived on Thursday afternoon and spent a little time at the shops, particularly The Cloth House in Berwick Street. What a fantastic fabric shop, full of beautiful and unusual cloth. I was looking for some linen that I could use with my latest screen printing design and found some lovely linen with a stripe running through it. (more on that another time) I stayed overnight with a very dear friend K and we had a lovely meal and a good catch up. The next day I was back into central London, and off to the Fashion and Textile Museum to the opening day of the Kaffe Fassett 'A life in Colour' retrospective exhibition. The exhibition closely follows his autobiography; it was an explosion of colour and it was fascinating to see the very wide range of paintings, tapestries, knitting, mosaics and fabrics that Kaffe has worked on over the years. Below are just a few photos from the exhibition. Quite a few of the quilts I recognised from the book 'Kaffe Quilts Again' so it was lovely to see them up close. If you are a fan of Kaffe and are in the area, it is well worth a visit. I then went on to the Selvedge Craft Fair at the Chelsea Old Town Hall, and enjoyed a wonderful couple of hours looking at all the fabulous work by some very talented makers. Then off to stay with another very good friend J who lives in Bedfordshire. I had a fab, very packed (and snowy) weekend with her - Saturday saw us back in London at the 'Country Living Spring Fair' The fair was very busy and very crowded, but again there were some beautiful things for sale. This was my first time at a Spring Fair, having only been to the Christmas Fairs in Glasgow and Harrogate in the past. I had quite an eventful trip home on the train - with trains being cancelled due to the snowy weather, but all in all a brilliant few days away.
Let's begin the new year on the front foot, with a post about a finish. From the moment I set eyes on Jen Kingwell's My Small ...
Hi All, Today was such a nice day, I thought I'd share a little. My theory is, that maybe if I blog about something right away, I can stay more current with my blogging, as I seem to have hit a major stall with it the last couple of months. So sorry about that, y'all. I have so much to catch you up on, I'm working on it! Today my mother and I went up the hill a little way to Sutter Creek for the Mother Lode Quilters Guild, Golden Threads Quilt show. There was so much to see, and so much inspiration! Here are just a few pictures I snapped at the show, I know there's a lot, but these were my favorites. My favorites (naturally) feature embroidery, look at this beautiful crazy quilted bed cover. The fabric was comprised of vintage feed sacks, but was a backdrop for the hand embroidery. Every single seam is covered in a rainbow of stitches! And this one! Gorgeously quilted and Using my mom as a reference, you can see how much embroidery is on this hand embroidered lilac quilt. Oh my goodness, that's a lot of densely packed lazy daisies! Something about this last quilt just makes me smile! It's not the fanciest, or the most beautiful, but I'm just crazy about it. So silly & whimsical! Just good plain fun. *UPDATE* I get a lot of emails about this terrific Chicken Quilt, even years later, to be clear, I DID NOT MAKE THIS QUILT, I just saw it at a quilt show and snapped a picture to share. I have found a link to what I believe is the original pattern, and where this pattern can still be purchased. As for the chicken wire fabric, I found similar fabrics for sale here, here and here. After the quilt show we did some perusing through the small gold mining town, and even visited a gourmet cheese shop and did a little tasting. Oh, baby! Lambchopper rules! We lunched at this lovely, out of the way eatery called Susan's Place. The food and service were wonderful! After lunch, we did a little more window shopping, and even a bit of real shopping at my favorite store in the whole town, The Antique Gardener, where I picked up a couple more goodies for my fairy garden. This is such a pretty store, if ever you're in the area, you must try to stop. Out back, they keep a variety of pretty flowers, veggies, and a variety of tiny plants, suitable for fairy gardens, which they have several of laying about the garden, tucked in here and there. These were my favorites. I ADORE fairy gardens! I've got a great Pinterest board where I'm always adding lots of cute & USEFUL links, pop over and follow along if you'd like more of this kind of thing! Here is a link to my Fairy Garden Pin Board. Like I said, such a nice day, truly wonderful. Before hitting the road to come home, we even popped into an old fashioned ice cream emporium for a cold, creamy treat, it really hit the spot. It was SO hot today. I hope you've enjoyed a peek at the day I spent with Mom, we sure enjoyed having such a nice day! Hope the rest of your weekend is as groovy as can be! oxo, Lisa

Speaking of campers that brings me to some news. Mr. Pinker and I will be going on a camping trip in January . We will be traversing the vast desert of the southwest in an old truck camper in hopes of enjoying a bit of warmer weather. Being in the desert with no electricity, means we will not have internet as well. So I will not be posting as often hence my flurry of posts this week. I will have some prescheduled posts ,and if we come into a town, maybe I can post and visit my blogging buddies as well. I sure will miss ya' . Good afternoon, ya'll. Today I hit the road looking for yard sales. Woo Hoo! I did find a few. I didn't make a grand haul, but I found a few things here and there. Turkey salt and pepper shakers, a basket, candleholders and some placemats. It was nice to get out and enjoy the day. Once I got home, I immediately began FFOing my Hazel Ewe. She has been hanging in the Quilt Nest just waiting to be finished , and after much cackling or should I say baaing, she convinced me today was the day! Hazel is a sweet little ewe who has several sisters, including Erin Ewe , Betsy Ewe, and Summer Ewe. She has more too, but these are the ones you have met so far. Let me tell you! Hazel is a character and just loves Halloween ! Why she has even nestled herself into a witches hat and is sporting one herself. I wonder what kind of spells she has brewing in her mind?🤔 Little Hazel has a pumpkin quilt draped over her back for those cool Halloween nights when she goes out haunting. I would rather have a quilt than a black cape too. She is a small measuring 33 x 47 . I stitched mine of 14 count coffee/ tea dyed aida and that brought her to about 2 3/8" x 3 3/8" . I finished mine on a 4" square paper mache' unfinished box that I painted black. I purchased the box from the Dollar Tree. After painting it, I roughed up the box with a little sandpaper , added some torn gingham and polka dot fabric strips and glued on some Dollar Tree buttons. Hazel is finished on a piece of 3 1/2" square foam board with 2 layers of batting. I added a torn holiday ruffle as trim. If you would like to stitch Hazel, please check out the pdf's below. Many of you know , but I always like to leave this little disclaimer. I stitch my little designs for fun and to decorate my home. I feel very blessed by this community and love sharing my little charts, but I am not a professional designer. And I do not have professional software. Thank you for understanding that I have to put each page on separate pdf downloads because of the devices I use. I apologize for that. Click here for black and white chart . My week has been a busy one. I have been pulling out Halloween items and rearranging things. Also trying to give the place a good cleaning to lessen the work come Christmas time. Have you seen the cute different colored bottle brush trees at Walmart in the Christmas section? This one was an autumn color just perfect to put on display for Halloween. Well I have rambled enough but I do want to end by telling you how much I appreciate you stopping by for a visit today. I hope you are ready for an awesome weekend. As always... Happy Stitching, ya'll Melisa When witches go riding and black cats are seen, the moon laughs and whispers tis' near Halloween. Hugs and Stitches !!! Dedicated to my sweet Baby sister, Amy , who always had an over the top Halloween costume!
Welcome, dear friends and Happy Wednesday! I have not been spending a lot of time stitching. Aarghh! I am still trying to figure out the email services for subscribers. They are just not working out so far .😕 I am not very techy ,and I do not understand the terminology that is used when I am working on setting them up. Oh yes! I have googled it , but I am just plumb tech dumb! Lol.😆😜 Fingers crossed I will muddle through it soon. I am not sure if my email service is working and am trying to figure out which is a better fit for my needs- "Follow it ' or Chimp Mail . My daughter has been trying to help which is a good thing. I had meant to post this earlier ,but better late than never. Are ya'll ready to head out to the bottoms? That is the lower pasture . It has been pretty rainy these last few day so put on your rubber boots , and let's head out! We can hitch a ride on the four wheeler if you like. Last week I shared my Summer Farm series with Summer on the Farm which had Pa Pa's barn and Summer Farmhouse which had Nanny and Papa's house and dad's red truck. This week I wanted to share Summer Farm Pasture. Behind the barn is the pasture. So what is going on in the summertime in the pastures on our farm? The cows are moved from field to field depending on hay baling. The cows are usually milling about, swatting flies with their long tails and enjoying some time in the shade near the pond. I have included Mollie, aka No. 4, which is the red cow. I have told you about her before. She is the smartest cow in our herd. Blackie, our old milk cow ,is also included in this design along with with two little calves one of which is Mollie's . In the front field is a small patch of corn- peaches and cream which will be very yummy when it is ready for the pickin'! Big sunflowers are reaching for the sun. Of course, I had to include my old treehouse which was located in an apple tree. Dad built a 2 level wooden tree house from cedar posts and pieces of plywood against the larger of the apple trees . My platform was the 1st level ; my sister's level which was a bit smaller was in the crook of a tree. I can not tell you how often my sister and I sat in that ole' treehouse filling our bellies full. Underneath the platform was the "garage" where we would pedal up on our Big Wheels and park . lol. Two little Pekin ducks are enjoying some time on the pond. I finished Summer Farm Pasture just as I did Summer on the Farm and Summer Farmhouse which was on a Dollar Tree unfinished wooden tray that I painted white and with a bit of Dollar Tree lace added for embellishment. The fabric is scrap fabric that I have had in my stash for years. If you are interested in this little stitch , just check out the pdfs below . Since I am not a designer, please check out my little disclaimer too. Many of you know , but I always like to leave this little disclaimer. I stitch my little designs for fun and to decorate my home. I feel very blessed by this community and love sharing my little charts, but I am not a professional designer. And I do not have professional software. There is nothing like farm life , and I am very grateful that you took the time to visit and check out my little designs. I am hoping to do a fall farm tour through my cross stitching in the future. So I hope that you will pop in for a visit Have a blessed week and as always... Happy Stitching, ya'll, Melisa Always do your best! What you plant now; you will harvest later. Hugs and Stitches! Happy Sunday, ya'll and welcome! I am so happy you stopped by for a Sunday visit and a little porch stitching. I have been able to sit on the porch for the last 2 days . Woo Hoo! It has been in the low 70's today with a slight breeze. I hope it is warming up in your area. Not much going on in the garden so I will give an update on that next week if weather allows. I did clean out some flower pots, but they are not very pretty to look at all. Lol. I have several projects to share with you today. I was so delighted when my friend Jane sent me a link last night to a sweet freebie called "Lydia the Garden Angel" by Leslie Davis of One of a Kind Heirlooms. I whipped her up in just a few hours finishing her up today. I left off "Happy Easter" and some swirls and changed her colors to make her look more like an Annie. I am so excited to add her to my Raggedy Ann collection. I look forward to FFOing her soon. Thought I would share some of my country toy clutter. I love little toys, wooden pieces and of course Annie and Andy. What else have I been up too? Still plugging away on my Easter quilt. It will not be completed by Easter time, but that is ok. A few more stitches will go into it tonight. When I take it off the hoop , I will share a better view of it. The quilt on the swing is an Around the World quilt. I got the top at the Goodwill and quilted it a couple of years ago. I pulled out my Little House Needleworks "Sampler Stitchers" . I love this design, and it does need some attention. I hope to work on it tonight and tomorrow. I have my cookies all baked/ stitched. I have added a new trifle for you to enjoy if you so choose. Please take a little cookie. The new one is called Strawberry Picker- a little robin enjoying a small berry. Of course , I have it plated up with all of the other trifles. I thought I would share how I make my little cookies though they are really ornaments or fobs. This is an itty bitty stitch measuring 16 x 21. I put it next to a quarter to show you how small it is on 14 count tea dyed aida. After I stitch my design, I gather my supplies. I need a piece of cardboard, my votive candle (to draw out the circles the size that I want my cookie to be), backing fabric for the cookie, thread, needle, batting and a bit of glue. I draw 2 circles on the cardboard using the votive candle as a template. I cut the cardboard circles out- one will be for the back and the other for the stitched piece. I cut 2 pieces of batting the size of the circle and add a dab of glue to the batting and cardboard and let dry. I then cut out a piece of backing fabric for the back of the cookie larger than the circle. I also trim my stitched piece into a large circle- it is larger than my cardboard circle. I start with the back or bottom part of the cookie and stitch a running stitch around the backing fabric. I then draw it closed and tie it off. I then repeat the same process with the stitched piece with the batting between the stitching and the cardboard. Next step, whip stitch these two pieces together at the seams using thread the same color. There are several videos on youtube that show how to whipstitch. Now my cookie is complete. But I wanted to add trim and make it into an ornament/fob too. So I used ric rac that is 17 inches long. I start at the bottom of the cookie. I start with one end and stitch up to the top of the cookie. I use a whip stitch going in and out of the peaks and valleys of the ric rac going back and forth from front side to back side. Once I got to the top, I wove my thread underneath my stitching to the bottom of the cookie and started stitching the other end of the ric rac to the side until the ric rac met at the top. I made sure there were no twists in my ric rac as I went. I stitched the ric rac closed once it met at the top. My sewing was complete. I then tied a knot in the ric rac and settled it against the stitched piece. I hope that helps on how I finished mine. Vonna Pfeiffer The Twisted Stitcher has all kinds of great tutorials. This is just how I do it. 😊 Click here if you would like to stitch Stawberry Picker. I was also asked what pattern was my chicken quilt. This is one of my applique patterns which I would love to share. I am appliqueing mine to a 10 1/2" unfinished background block using needleturn applique. One of the amazing quilters that I love to watch demonstrate needleturn applique' is Jan Patek. She has a number of videos on Youtube. Click here to see her work on Eagle Wings and Rooster Tails Click here if you would like the Chicken applique pattern. Well, I am off to enjoy the last few hours of sunshine and hopefully get a little more porch stitching done. Thank you for keeping me company; it is always a joy . A very Merry Mason Jar Monday to you ! 😃💗 I have not done a Mason Jar Monday post in awhile have I? Well last night , I pulled out my scrap bag and went to town strip piecing scraps willy nilly. In no time, I had enough to applique a wee mason jar in pinks . It is appliqued to a 7 1/2" square. I am going to use these blocks for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge. I want to piece 3 more this week. A new mason jar stitch is in the works as well. You know me and birdies. I also wanted to share with you a February house stitch. This one is called Love Grows Here, and it is so pretty in pink. And can you believe those roofers added a red roof ?!!!! I think Cupid would be quite happy living here. Don't you? Love Grows Here with Dorothy Mae's Spring House This is a small with a design size of 71 x 72. I stitched mine on 14 count aida that I tea/ coffee dyed myself. Click here if you are interested in seeing how I tea dye mine. I call it Messin' and a Gommin' for I am a messy at this process. Lol. Ok now back to the stitch. Cupid has a green thumb for look at the large basket of blooms that he has on his roof. A few white hearts are scattered here and there. If you are interested in stitching Love Grows Here ,grab the images below. Many of ya'll know but I always encourage you to read my little disclaimer and note about getting my charts. Good morning, my dears. Happy happy Tuesday. Oh, let me tell you a story! It's a mystery/ tall tale ! I about had a nuclear meltdown last night. Can you believe it ? I sure did. What happened you ask? Well last week I had intended to fully finish a cross stitch piece called Prim Winter Blessings Home that I had just finished. I "remembered" that I took it into the sewing room to audition some frames. I never did finish it . So last night, I happily went to the sewing room to finish my piece. I looked ,and I looked.👀👀 Prim Winter Blessings Home was gone!!!! I shuffled through fabrics - No Winter Blessings! I shuffled through the fabrics again!!! No Winter Blessing !!! Yikes !! I was on the verge of panic. Then fabrics began to fly through the air. Where could it be? I ran to my stitchy spot in the living room and frantically went through my project bags and boxes. No Winter Blessings! A flash went through my head - "Oh no ", I told myself , "This is 2018 Lizzie Kate Summer Smalls all over again. " What is 2018 LK Summer Smalls you ask. Well that is an ongoing case . I stitched LK Summer smalls , fully finished it, and then it mysteriously disappeared.🔍- a total mystery. I filed a MCSR , a Missing Cross Stitch Report, and it is still under investigation to this very day👮🚓 😄. In fact if you drive through my neighborhood you might see a billboard for the missing cross stitch. 😀😂 Any whooo! Winter Blessings was gone. So I ran downstairs in tears on a verge of a nuclear meltdown. Mr. Pinker asked what was wrong . Tearfully, I wailed, "Its' gone; its just plain gone"! Mr Pinker reassured me and said that he would help look. As we went upstairs, he asked what does it look like. Being one great for detail, I replied, "Well , its on cross stitch fabric and has a house on it" . Though I was not facing him, the eyes in the back of my head saw his eyes roll and he replied "Hmmm that narrows it down a bit". Lol.( Ya'll know my "house cross stitch obsession." ) I went to the couch and plopped down . I slowly shuffled through my floss box resigned that a burglar had to have broke in and in awe of its beauty, snatched my Prim Winter Blessings Home . What other rational explanation could there be ???? As I was about to make a call to the appropriate authorities, all of a sudden Mr. Pinker opened up my project box and right on top was "Prim Winter Blessings Home "smiling brightly at him. I swear I went through those bags and boxes 250 times. Lol. So to make a long story short my nuclear meltdown was averted. But now the question is - How did it get in the project box? Hmmm. 🔎 😁😀 The mystery continues. Lol. So you can see that I did fully finish Prim Winter Blessings Home . Thankfully , I had the perfect size frame for it so it was a quick finish. I hope to create a Spring version in the future. If you are interested in stitching this piece, click on the links below. But let me forewarn you, if you do stitch it. You may have a cross stitch burglar come to your house 😀😏😜 Many of you know , but I always like to leave this little disclaimer. I stitch my little designs for fun and to decorate my home.
