If you LOVE the flavor of Rao’s homemade marinara sauce, you will be head over heals for this super simple, spot on copycat version! The secret is out! Copycat Rao’s Homemade Marinara Sauce 46 oz canned San Marzano tomatoes, whole 1/4 cup olive oil 3 tbsp garlic, minced 2 tbsp onions, minced 4 leaves fresh basil, chopped 1/8 tsp fresh oregano, finely chopped kosher salt, to taste fresh ground black pepper, to taste HOW TO MAKE COPYCAT RAO’S MARINARA SAUCE Careful to reserve all of the juice, drain the tomatoes, and place them in a large bowl. Gently crush the tomatoes with your hands, removing cores, stems, and any tomato skin pieces you may find in the process. Heat the olive oil in a saucepan over medium heat, then add the onion and minced garlic, sauteing until both are fragrant. Add both the crushed tomatoes and the reserved tomato juice, and bring the mixture to a boil over high heat Once a boil has been reached, reduce the heat and simmer for two hours, stirring every 10-15 minutes or so. Once the mixture has cooked for about 30 minutes, add the oregano and basil and continue cooking for the remaining time. If you prefer a smoother sauce (similar to the texture of the sauce in the jar) use an immersion blender to blend it. Alternatively, you can transfer the cooled sauce to a blender and pulse until you achieve the desired texture. Add salt and pepper to taste, regardless of blending Serve and enjoy!
