English version: Origen: Central and Western China Common name: Lady Bank´s Rose Roses has been cultivated by men for over 2,700 years. During this time a few wild species has been breeded and hybridized to obtain hundreds of different cultivars. This way nearly all the roses we can see in gardes are hybrids. One of the very few wild species we can found in gardens is this one: Lady Bank´s Rose. This rose had been grown in the gardens of China for hundreds of years and the form with double white flowers was the first known in Europe. The species was introduced to Europe by William Kerr, who had been sent on a plant-hunting expedition by eminent botanist Sir Joseph Banks, after whose wife the species was named. A number of other forms were subsequently discovered growing in China, The white, small-flowered R. banksiae var. normalis with white simple flowers is considered the "wild" form. 'Lutea' is another common cultivar with light yellow flowers. All Lady Banks' roses are said to smell of violets to varying degrees. This rose, nearly thornless, can scramble over bushes and trees to more than 12 metres in height. The biggest rose in the World belongs to this species. It grows since 1885 in Tombstone, Arizona, covering in 740 m2 of the roof on an inn, and has 3.7 m circumference trunk. It flowers only once a year, in early spring, but it´s astonishing. Roll over. GROW! Okay, good. Good bush.” Then moving on to the next. The fact of the matter though, is that…
