История города началась в 1716 году, когда по приказу Петра I для укрепления рубежей Российской империи была заложена Омская крепость. В 1797 году острог получил статус города. В XIX веке Омск стал центром Степного края, который охватывал значительную часть Западной Сибири и север современного Казахстана, что составляло около трети территории всей страны. Таким образом, за триста лет небольшая крепость на отдалённой границе Российской империи превратилась в крупный промышленный центр.В этом году Омску исполняется 300 лет!
