Although Routemaster buses running a conventional passenger service were last seen in London in 2005, they still keep popping up in the oddest of places, and not always as heritage buses.

At the terminus in Barnet High Street (now re-qualified as Barnet Church, though the new arrangements are now a longer schlep to the Church), sits RM908 running as FY 3 on route 263. The bus, one of FY's original trolleybus replacement stock, is next to the latest thing in Point Inspector Hut technology, a sad wooden structure sitting on planks and at a rakish angle ready to tumble down in the slightest breeze. Am I correct in assuming this was the self same facility provided for the Trolley Inspector a little further up the hill when services turned around right in front of the Church? Replacing much of both Routes 104 and 17 eighteen months earlier in January 1971, RM908 is off soon for another long haul into town and its weekend Kings Cross terminus. The date is July 9th 1972, just one week before being converted to DMS OPO. © Malcolm K Allan, California.
