Highlights of the High Line! Have you been to the High Line yet? Well, you should go. Recommended by Karen Seiger of Markets in NYC (in my last post covering Morningside Heights), the High Line is quite the treat. And it's FREE to check out. Yup, this elevated Manhattan public park spans nearly 20 blocks from Gansevoort Street to 34th Street (between 10th & 11th Avenues), and it's full of plant life and history. Did you know that the High Line was built in the 1930s and no trains have run on it since the 1980s? Read more info here! Access points can be found at: Gansevoort Street 14th Street (elevator access) 16th Street (elevator access) 18th Street 20th Street What's around your corner? In the comments section, please suggest something neat to do/see in the Manhattan Tri-State Area that's either free or on-the-cheap, and it just may be the next place I visit. Thanks for coming along! Virginia Kraljevic

The Nupe, a group of around 500,000 individuals residing near the Niger and Kaduna Rivers in Nigeria, maintain a distinct identity despite geographical proximity to the Hausa. Their unique language sets them apart, unrelated to any known language. Influenced by Islam for centuries, which prohibits human depictions in art, Nupe artisans have excelled in adorning utilitarian objects with intricate geometric patterns. Crafted items like wooden bowls, calabashes, and textiles reflect their adeptness in blending artistry within cultural boundaries. Despite constraints, Nupe artists' skillful use of geometric designs showcases their adaptability and artistic prowess. Historically subject to the Igalas and later affected by Hausa and Fulani dominance, Nupe mythology reflects their turbulent past. Their culture remains vibrant and celebrated for its adaptability and historical significance in the face of social and religious limitations. less

Frame not included, prints will come unframed. Real tree ring art print, inspired by nature and pressed by hand by Erik Linton. This tree ring print is definitely one of my personal favorites. This print is made from a Black Locust Tree from Athens, Ohio near the Wayne National Forest. Each print is made by hand by printing directly from the wood of a tree. The wood that is used to make the prints is gathered from already fallen trees. Material: 100lb acid-free paper Size: 18x24 Type: Locust from Ohio Paint: High-quality textured ink. Ink color: Black Ships quickly in a sturdy tube. Signed by me
The Azande figure was hand-carved by the Azande artisans of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, but the Azande community is known for residing in South Sudan and the Central African Republic as well. This piece is crafted with intricate detail representing a male figure. Carved from locally sourced wood, this piece served as a vessel between the physical and spiritual realms and embodies the presence of ancestral spirits within the Azande community. Whether displayed in ceremonial contexts or preserved within private collections, the Azande miniature figure stands as a testament to the artistic mastery and spiritual connection of the Azande peoples of Congo. 140708

I’m signing off for the week to enjoy the Thanksgiving weekend, feeling very thankful this year. Summing it up in a couple of sentences sounds trite, but please accept a simple and heartfelt thank you to all of you. These Finnish Eyes as Big as Plates photos by Riittai Konen and Karoline Hjorth are stunning. Beautiful. Inspiring. The 7 word autobiographies of famous creatives (Joan Didion, David Byrne, Madeleine Albright, and many others) are pretty clever. Feel the fear. Hey, after Thanksgiving, people no longer think you’re nuts if you have a Christmas tree up! Here are some fun alternatives to the traditional tree this year. Hello, pretty little brass pencil case. Get the look: wicker and woven texture in the bedroom. Think outside the box with these cute geometric picture frames. I love the card series of furniture in Animal Crossing, but ZOMG this table exists IRL! Modernica didn’t design the Eames-style shell chairs they sell, but they do produce the most authentic versions today. Cozy up on the couch with a movie and a good throw blanket (or two). Perfect for family movie night, or post-turkey napping.
