The Samnite Warrior; Hailing from the rugged inland region of Samnium in southern central Italy, the Samnites were one of Rome's greatest rivals. One of their most famous pieces of equipment was their large shield: a scutum. This shield proved so effective that the Romans soon adopted it for themselves and it became one of the most iconic parts of a legionary's equipment.
