Introducing a new addition to my Scottish ephemera Journal, a brand new set of unique and creative stickers! Our recent trip back to Scotland has inspired me to create these gorgeous stickers using archived images from Old Scottish advertisements, and zoomed in on classic snippets for an industrial type look. With the template for the 6cm x 1.5 cm stickers, you can now easily print them onto a WL-950 sticker sheet and they're good to go! This clever idea is perfect for those who want to get creative without the hassle. Each page consists of 33 different stickers, with a total of 66 stickers spread across two pages. These stickers are perfect for scattering around your journal page, and layering with other items. The close up crops of the images give it a bit of a Steampunk feel that adds to their uniqueness. You can print these stickers on any type of paper, but I recommend using cardstock for better durability. Get creative and let these stickers inspire you to create stunning journals, scrapbooks, and more!
Another great cover in the series of guides issued by Glasgow's Corporation Transport Department in the 1930s to publicise the world famous municipal transport system. Here the Glasgow skyline appears with the city's coat-of-arms superimposed, with the city's motto - "Let Glasgow Flourish".

This is an early poster for the LNER as it was only formed in 1923. I really like the works of Frank Brangwyn - one of the most fascinating and prolific British artists of the early 20th century who did many works in engraving. This striking illustration of the Royal Border Bridge viaduct at Berwick upon Tweed, the scale dwarfing the men below and the train high above. The poster was one of a series of bridges by Brangwyn.
The London, Midland and Scottish Railway (LMS) and the London and North Eastern Railway (LNER) were the two largest of the “Big Four” railway companies by the Railways Act of 1921. In fact the LMS was the world’s largest transport organisation, the largest commercial undertaking in the British Empire and the United Kingdom’s second … Continue reading "“Scotland for the Holidays” – Gorgeous Railway Brochures and Posters From the 1930s"
An amazingly colourful brochure cover with almost every clue as to the London to Scotland route covered - London & the Thames linked to that masterpiece of Victorian engineering, the wonderful Forth Rail Bridge. The East Coast Route was an effective 'joint' venture between the 3 railways the route from London Kings Cross to Scotland ran over - the Great Northern, the North Eastern and North British Railways.
British seaside resorts featured heavily in the auction and many of the posters were placed at railway stations throughout the UK between the 1920s and 1940s

One of the large series of brochures issued by British Railways in this style during the 1950s and most with charming, if not exciting, period artwork! This is the 1952 folder for Edinburgh and the Scottish Lowlands, the Border Country that stretches south to the English Border between Carlisle and Berwick on Tweed. This part of Southern Scotland was once primarily rail served by the famous "Waverley Line", one of the most infamous 1960s rail line closures. It had been named after the popularity of Sir Walter Scott's novels by the railway company who had helped coin the phrase when their line became part of the stimulus of tourist traffic in the early years of the railway and affordable holiday travel. It didn't stop the acrimonious closure that has, in recent years, been partially reversed with the reconstruction of the northern section of the line. The cover is unusually unattributed and it shows a suitably romantic view of Edinburgh's famous Castle from West Princes St Gardens.

The softback cover of the 1892 edition of MacBrayne's steamers services guide. It is a real example of Victorian chromo-litho printing - bright, gaudy and eye-catching!

This large series on railway poster deals mainly with what could be called the golden age of the railway poster, where the sun always shone and the British seaside was as glamorous as the Côte d’Azur. Many talented and famous artists like Frank Newbould, John Hassall and Terence Cuneo worked on these posters. For more information, and for other works, see part 1 also. A typical example of the hardbacked edition of the Macbrayne's guides issued - a view of one of the company's steamers picked out in gold - crowns and thistles plugging the Royal and Scottish connections!
