I decided to try out a variety of techniques -- I figured this top started as a muslin, so why stop experimenting? Top left: 1/2" strip of jersey pulled into a rope and couched to base fabric with a single strand of button & craft thread. Bottom left: 1/2" strips of cotton/lycra jersey (left over from a pair of leggings I made last fall). Appliqued with a running stitch using a single strand of button & craft thread. I folded the strip wherever there was a sharp curve or corner in the design. Top right: 1/2" strip of medium-weight jersey appliqued to base fabric using the Alabama Chanin random ruffles. Running stitch in single strand of button & craft thread. Bottom right: reverse applique. Design outlined with running stitch, single strand of button & craft thread. Backing fabric is a scrap of cotton/lycra jersey (left over from leggings made last fall). I'll be using two more techniques as well. :)
