Hello friends, Belated Merry Christmas to you! I hope it was full of blessings for you and your loved ones. For those who struggle at this time of year, or especially this year, my heart goes out to you. There are so many complicated emotions that can accompany Christmastime. I love this season because we get to celebrate the birth of our Savior. 💓 As much as I wanted to share these cards with you during the month of December, I just ran out of steam. LOL So, here are a bunch of cards that seem to have a couple of themes running through most: Glad Tidings and Plaid Tidings, with a few other twists in the lineup. The first card was for my husband. I got new dies, from Paper Rose - both the stitched tree and the deer (LeAnne, thank you for enabling me!), and they go so well together! Paper Rose Stitched Trees, Deer Family dies; gold sequins; Simon Says Stamp Magic of Christmas pinecone stamp; Papertrey Ink Angled Labels die, Silent Night sentiment; Verve Christmas In The Air sentiment in background I'll be linking this one up to the NBUS challenge #21 (Never Before Used Schtuff), as these dies are brand new! The next card was for my youngest daughter, using a bottlebrush tree stamp set from Papertrey Ink. Love how the little trees came out. Papertrey Ink Joyful Christmas bottlebrush trees, Christmas Blessings sentiment; Gina Marie Designs Eyelet Elegance Rectangles die; Hug Snug white seam binding; pearls Made a second one, and there are very subtle differences between the two, including how the bow was tied. Hard to see in the photo, though. The next is for the stash, and was simple to make but has a good pop to it. The tree was punched from gold and plaid paper (this was in a Stampin' Up! scrap bag I bought). I added gems to it, and stamped a couple of Verve snowflakes with Distress Ink on red cardstock, to create my own patterned paper. The effect reminds me of flocked wallpaper from the 1970's. Ha! Stampin' Up! tree punch; Verve Glad Tidings sentiment, snowflakes; Papertrey Ink Angled Labels die; red rhinestones Every now and then, this little Lawn Fawn bunny comes out to play. I think he's the cutest. He's sporting a blue-green scarf as he glides over glistening snow-covered hills in the moonlight. Lawn Fawn Winter Bunny; Papertrey Ink Tiny Tags die; Flourishes Warm Winter Wishes sentiment; My Favorite Things Stitched Basic Edges die; glitter glue; rhinestone; white cotton twine Our cat, Cristabel, gives my husband a card for his birthday, Father's Day, and Christmas, so here is the card she gave to Dad this year. Papertrey Ink For The Guys 'dad' die; red rhinestones; Paper Rose Stitched Trees die; Memory Box Large Sitting Cat die The next one is for my stash, too, and it's different, and not at all the expected Christmas colors. This has more of a peaceful, wintry feel. Stampin' Up! Garden Pleasures birdhouse & bird stamps, Brushed Silver cardstock, patterned papers, snowflake die; rhinestone; Verve Glad Tidings sentiment; Papertrey Ink Angled Labels die; glitter glue The next four cards have a plaid thing going on, as you will see. Those little corrugated Christmas trees were in a Stampin' Up! scrap bag I bought, so I had quite a few to play with. Papertrey Ink Tag-Its #8 Mini sentiment; gold candy dots; Fiskars Star punch; Stampin' Up! tree & star die, patterned paper strips, scalloped oval, snow embossing folder, crochet lace Stampin' Up! tree and star, scalloped oval, snow embossing folder; twine; gold ribbon; Papertrey Ink Angled Labels die, Christmas Blessings sentiment Stampin' Up! tree and star, red snowflake felt accents, Brown Sugar twine; Crafty Secrets vintage stickers; crochet lace; ivory candy dots; Papertrey Ink Tiny Tags round tag die; manila tag; Flourishes Christmas Postcard "Dec 25" round stamp Crafty Secrets wreath sticker; ivory candy dots; Stampin' Up! tree and star; crochet lace Not sure how I feel about the next card, but here it is for you to see, nonetheless. Love the Papertrey Ink sentiment, and those sweet Simon Says Stamp mittens, though. Papertrey Ink Stylish Sentiments: Christmas sentiment; Simon Says Stamp Winter Warmth mittens; white cotton twine; rhinestones; Gina Marie Designs Big and Little Chain Rectangles And the final card involves some repurposing. If you've been reading my blog for a while, you may recall these candles from 2012. I plucked off the n, o, e, and l from the candle decorations, and put them on a card front for my mom. Spellbinders Persian Motifs die; Inspired By Stamping Fancy Alphabet, Mason Jar Add-On II (label), Festive Frames (holly); red Liquid Pearls; pearls That's it for now! I've got another (shorter) post in the works to share soon. Thanks so much for coming by today, God bless you!
When the advent season begins, our stressed-out and overworked spirits are refreshed by renewed anticipation of all Christmas means to us. But how do we hold onto that hope and stay on course throughout the year?

I'd like to thank Celestial Elf for sharing this wonderful article about the Midwinter Solstice with us. You can read more about Celestial Elf and his amazing machinima film work in the Artist Interview we conducted with him earlier this year. The Mind Body Spirit Odyssey wishes all of our readers a happy Holiday Season and a wonderful New Year! In Ancient Northern Europe the mid-winter Solstice (between 20th/23rd of December) was called 'Earth Mother's Night', and as the shortest day of the year it effectively represents the turning point of the season. The Romans called this Sostice the Dies Natalis Invicti Solis, the Birthday of the Unconquered Sun. The Roman midwinter festival of Saturnalia (17-25 December) celebrated Saturnus (god of fertility, harvest and time) and his wife Ops (Mother Earth). Whilst Temples and homes were decorated with stars and suns and evergreens symbolizing life's continuity, Processions of people with masked or blackened faces symbolizing the dark of winter danced through the streets, which has survived in the custom of 'Mummer's Plays'. Masters also feasted with their slaves and a 'King' was appointed from their number to take charge of the revels giving rise to the 'Lord of Misrule' of medieval Christmas festivities, which tradition survived into the 17th Century." In Northern Europe the winter festival was called the Yule (Juul). As the people thought the Sun stood still for twelve days in the midwinter, plunging Mother Earth and all her growing things into the dark, coldness of death, It was thought that spring could not come without their celebration of midwinter. During this time the Druids began the tradition of burning the Yule Log to conquer the darkness and to evoke the return of the Sun for the new year, the Suns divine male energy was needed to return and quicken the Earths sacred female energy for the Rebirth of spring. A Yule Tree was also illuminated with candles, to further this effort to attract the Sun. Therefore 'Yule' is the midwinter festival of light, as the length of daylight progressively increases after the winter solstice. Along with the Evergreen, the Holly and the Ivy and the Mistletoe are important plants of this season, symbolizing fertility & everlasting life. Mistletoe, also known as The Golden Bough (and called Allheal, used in folk medicine to cure many ills) was held sacred by the Druids and Norse people, who cut it with a golden sickle (symbolic of the Sun) on the sixth night of the moon. Both Druids and Romans hung sprigs of mistletoe in their homes and places of celebration to bring good fortune and peace & the Scandinavians would halt and call Truce in battle if they came across mistletoe in their Forests. In addition, its fertility endowing powers have by tradition created its modern role as a symbol of love (a man should pick a berry when he kisses a woman beneath the mistletoe, when the last berry is gone there should be no more kissing!). The myth of the Holly King/Oak King probably originated from the Druids to whom these two trees were highly sacred. The Oak King (Lord of the Waxing Year and identified with the 'wren' symbolizing the Old Year and Shortened Sun) kills the Holly King (Lord of the Waning Year, son and successor of the Oak King, identified with the 'robin redbreast' symbolizing the New Year and New Sun that begins to grow) at Yule (Winter Solstice). The Oak King then reigns until Litha (Summer Solstice) when the two fight again and the Holly King is victorious. The Holly King is still seen in some representations of the modern Santa Claus." Of the Wren itself (which was also called 'magus avium' - the magic or druid bird) this hapless bird was for many years hunted and killed on December 26 by young boys because it was recognized as a sacred bird to the early Druids. It was targeted by Christian believers as their Pagan purges were frequent and relentless. The boys would receive money as they paraded their dead trophies from house to house... The Nordic Yule began in the evening of winter solstice 20th-23rd December, with the sacrifice of a wild pig (boar) to Mother Earth. This gave strength to Mother Earth (Freja), so that she could give birth to her Son (Balder) on 24th of December who represented both the next generation and most importantly, light ie the New Sun (which was also echoed in the Rebirth of the Persian Sun God Mithrais {as well as the Greek Apollo} on 25th December, a significant date later co-opted by the Christian Church...) The ham as the Yule dish is particularly significant because in ancient times the pig was considered a holy animal and personification of Mother Earth, symbolizing her fertility. Thus the Yule ham is Mother Earth herself. Regarding such Sacrifices in these Ancient traditions; As they held that Divinity was inherent in all creatures as an expression of the God's powers within nature, so the most powerful of these rituals was when a God was sacrificed to share their divine energy. Those who ate of such sacrificial feasts received a part of the Deities divine power, just as the death of one creature gives life to others. For the ancient people such traditions were completely normal as they 'sacrificed' the seed in spring to earth, where it ‘died’, and later rose again to give life to many new seeds which in turn would both feed many people and beget many more new seeds. These principles are similar in theme to the Christian atonement sacrifice of Christ, the ritual of Eucharist and the Ascension. Be that as it may, I share with you now Bright Yule Blessings: Yule Blessings. Blessings to you from the Earth Mother. She is the Moon. She watches over all of us by. The light that she casts over the blessed earth. Walk her night lit path And happiness you will find at every turn. Blessed be! Blessings to you from the Sky Father. He is the Sun. He holds us up And brings us strength. Carry his sword To cleave the evil from your path And you will be unmolested. Blessed Be! Blessings to you from the Great Spirit. It binds us all together: Man to womyn; beast to beast; all. We are it and it is us. Blessed Be! May you have a wonderful Holiday. The time has come for the sun to be reborn He lies in his Mother's womb waiting... Awaiting his reappearance on this plane. Let us all rejoice in his rebirth and ours. Blessed Be! (by yusef) Merry Solstice, Happy Yule... After writing this post, a bit later I rewrote the famous poem The Night before Christmas and made the machinima film The Night Before Christmas Or Yuletide or Such.... to reinstate Odin and the ancient Norse traditions in place of Father Christmas per se.. which you can read by following the link above, or just enjoy the film below Follow the daily updates of the Mind Body Spirit Marketplace on Facebook

Good Morning and happy Thursday! Where has this week gone? I feel like it is still earlier this week and football shouldn't be tomorrow but it is! It has been a week where I have had to be somewhere each day... I really hate weeks like that. It messes with my creativity! Joshua had a rough day yesterday but we get to see our family doctor today and Taryn stayed home because of a cough... no other symptoms, just a cough! The rules at school are make it so that she can't go to school today either because of the COVID-19 precautions they are taking on the school. We have only had 7 total cases in the school. Which is an amazing blessing! Enough about that, as I am sure that we have all heard enough. Today, is the last hop for the One Stamp At A Time Blog Hop for the 2020 year! We are hopping with the theme Glad Tidings We Bring. I have chosen to hop with the Wonder Of The Season Suite in our Holiday Mini Catalog. This is an amazing suite that has gotten a ton of love in my craft room! I have even added a few dies from the the Tasteful Label Dies. Let me show you what I have created! In the hustle and bustle of Christmas approaching, I decided last year that I was going to redo my Christmas Tree décor. It is LOOOOOOONNNNG over due! As you know, we live kind of a farm like life so it is only appropriate that our tree be a farmhouse theme. So, a month ago I started accumulating ornaments. Some will be DIY type jobs which is how I ended up with blocks used in todays project! My card started with the 'Tis the Season Designer Series Paper paired with the Wonder Of The Season Specialty Designer Series Paper. It is nicely layered onto a piece of Crumb Cake Card Stock that I have rubbed the edges with Soft Suede ink. I chose to use the plaid like pattern because of the traditional feel. The piece from Wonder Of The Season is matted with a piece of Garden Green card stock to give it a bit of pop. Stampin' Blends are a great way to color our ribbons and that is how I made our Gold Metallic Edge Ribbon Cherry Cobbler so that it coordinate nicely with my card. The tag die from Wishes & Wonder Bundle is amazing, I have stamped it with the pine piece from Cherish The Season using Crumb Cake and Soft Suede Inks. A few little pine pieces in Garden Green from the Cherish the Season Bundle were a great touch. I wasn't sure that the reindeer would work in Crumb Cake card stock but after die cutting him and sponging him with some Soft Suede ink it turned out pretty cool. The sentiment is stamped in Garden Green ink and die cut with a die from the Tasteful Label Dies. They paired nicely with the North Pole Dies, and I even made a gold banner from the Brushed Metallic Cardstock. A bit of Gold Cord from the Wonder Of The Season Ribbon Pack and a few gems and my card was done! Remember the DIY stuff for my Christmas tree?? I stumbled on the Jenga type block ornaments on Pinterest (go figure right?). I had 3 extra that I hadn't painted yet and painted them up to coordinate with the Wishes & Wonder Designer Series Papers. The Apple Barrel Vineyard Green is darn close to our Garden Green! I have adhered a 3/4" strip of DSP to a mat of cardstock. The Playful Alphabet Dies got a work out as I cut them from the Crumb Cake cardstock twice before cutting them out of gold foil. Our adhesive sheets came in handy for these. They are accented with a bit of the Sheer Real Red Ribbon! The great thing about them is that they could go on a package or a tree!! I am so glad you stopped by today! Make sure you take a spin around the whole hop! I can't wait for you to see the amazing creations from each of our friends! After the first Christmas card was sent in 1843, Victorians eagerly embraced the new tradition. Here are just a few of the wonderfully weird cards we tracked down.
Hello crafty friends! I got to play with the amazing Simon Says Stamp November card kit over the weekend! I started by choosing one of the amazing pattern paper pieces and the stencil from the kit. I die cut my panel and masked the berry part of the stencil and then added some Tonic Esmeralda Green Glitter paste. Once the panel was dry, I used the stencil as my map and added some Tonic Holly Berries Jewel Drops. I am in love with these Jewel Drops, they really give a great berry effect. I set the panel aside to dry again overnight to ensure that the Jewel Drops were really dry. I die cut (yes, once again the new Joy die from Simon Says Stamp it is my favourite this year) from Lawn Fawn Chilli Pepper card stock and Tonic Sugar Crystal Glitter paper. Glued them together and added some fun foam to the back for dimension. I paired the Joy with a secondary sentiment from the Simon Says Stamp Tiny Words Christmas and die cut using a banner die. I added the panel to the card base and to finish off, some Sparkling Clear Sequins! Thanks so much for taking the time, products used are linked and listed below. I know. You’re tired. Life is big and loud and raucous on a normal day, and now it’s Christmas and there’s...
I used the beautiful new Poppy Stamps Mistletoe Side Strips and Stencil die to make a couple cards with mistletoe!... This first card, I used the die as it was designed, and stenciled color onto the white leaves with some distress oxide ink. I love the detail of the leaves on this die! I used Tonic drops and a piece of acetate, to make some mistletoe berries. I used my exacto knife to remove the dryed dots, and then adhered them to the branches of the mistletoe... I layered the leaves a few time, then popped up the other side of the card panel, and used a layered Birch Press "Merry" die, cut from gold card stock. I DID use my Wink of Stella brush to give a little glitter to the leaves....although it's very subtle in this pic. Here's a close up... The second card, I die cut the leaves, then cut them off the border strip with scissors. I used the Poppy Stamps Winter Berries die, dotting the berries with Tonic drops, and die cut one of the pretty Memory Box Stylish Frame Trio dies, to make a frame for the winter berries and leaves... I stamped two sentiments from the Memory Box Tidings Wreath stamp set with versa mark and embossed with gold powder. Here's a close up... I am getting in the mood for Christmas!! What fun!! Thanks for visiting me today!! Hugs!! Lisa
