Mental States of a Man In spirituality there is a hierarchy of five mental states. For the worldly people there are basically three mental states. 8.1 The State of Tamogun – Egoistic and Lustful A tamoguni person is always engrossed in the five vices. He is unable to know the difference between good and evil. He is cruel and commits evil deeds. They eat food which induces laziness and are often addict to alcohol and other intoxicants. 8.2 State of Rajogun- Full of Vigour, Energy and The Adventure Rajoguni persons are always full of vigour, energy and are adventurous. They are always struggling to decide between good and evil. Their higher mind constantly reminds them to pursue divine path but heart is attracted towards material world. 8.3 The State of Satogun - Truthfulness In this state, a person has full control over his senses and evil tendencies. They are completely absorbed in meditation. They eat simple vegetarian food and wear simple clothes. For them worldly duties becomes worship. 8.4 The State of Buddhi- The Divine Wisdom Persons of Satoguni state acquire the state of Buddhi by treading the divine Path with full devotion. By persistently treading the divine path, the Seeker ultimately attain state of Divine Realm. 8.5 The State of Atam Pad- The Divine Realm Beyond the above mentioned four states, highest state of spiritual awakening is known as Atam Pad or Turiya Pad or Sehaj Awastha. In this the Seeker and the Sought becomes One. All their actions are in accordance with the Divine Will.
