HOW TO GROW FROM SEEDS LAVENDER VERA It is perfect for sowing Lavandula Lavender Vera seeds from February to July on the surface of moist seed compost. The plants will rot if planted on wet ground. Cover the seeds with a sprinkling of vermiculite or finely sieved compost. During germination, the seed tray can be sealed in a clear polythene bag or placed inside a propagator at a temperature of 21-25°C for up to 21 days. Keep the compost damp but not wet and do not exclude light as this helps germination. When handling the seedlings, transplant them into 7.5cm pots and grow lavender plants at a cooler temperature until well established. CARE AFTER GERMINATION OF LAVENDER VERA It would be best to water your Lavender Vera plants regularly until they are established during their first growing season. This is especially important during periods of hot, dry weather. Lavender tolerates droughts reasonably well once it has been established. Lavender enjoys free-draining soil in full sun. A well-established plant can withstand chalky soils as well as dry conditions. As a seedling grows into a plant, you don't need to worry much when it comes to caring for Lavender Vera. LAVENDER VERA USES AND BENEFITS There are versatile uses of Lavender. A cake flavoured with lavender tastes delicious. Add a few leaves to the sugar jar to make jams, jellies, sorbets, biscuits, and other sweet treats. Additionally, Lavender is well known for its calming properties and can be used to make homemade soap, candles, and bath oils that can help you unwind and fall asleep at night. Consider putting a few stems and using them as natural air fresheners instead of plug-ins or chemical air fresheners. A delicious sauce can be created by combining lavender flowers with vegetable stock. Note: Information provided for guidance only, as cultural practices and climatic circumstances vary. The hemispherical tussocks of Moss Campion often have flowers growing on the south facing "sunny" side. Although when you grow that far north there doesn't seem to be much of a shady side in 24 hour daylight. It was also known as the compass plant.

Here's a tip on how to do this. Rose seed germination tips: Before planting, the seeds need to be germinated first. Here's a tip on how to do this. Rose seeds need a period of cold storage to sprout. Place in a seed tray, with saturated but not soaking wet soil, cover with plastic wrap, and place in fridge for 10-12 weeks. This cold period puts the seed in a state of hibernation, thus causing it to activate when warmed back up. Then remove and place in an area where the temp is around 70-75 degrees. Only about 40-50 percent of seeds will sprout. Never touch the seedling with your hands, use a spoon to transplant to bigger pots when needed. Fertilize, and when the plant is around a foot tall, plant outside, fertilizing again.

Wild Centaurea cyanus – WILD CORNFLOWER Cornflower is an attractive, tall annual with a much branched stem and hairy, grey-green leaves. Easily its most distinctive feature is its large, intensely blue ‘flowers’, which in common with other members of the daisy family (Asteraceae) are in fact a compound head of many small flowers. The edge of the head consists of large clear blue flowers and the middle of small purplish ones. Flowering occurs from June to August and is followed by the seeds which are similar in size to cereal grain but crowned with a brush of short bristles. More recent publications (i.e. ITIS Catalogue of Life) have used the Latin synonym Cyanus segetum.
This photo baffles me. The petal tips have an other-worldly look to them ... almost artificial, but I'm not sure why. Lens distortion? Camera? The guy behind the camera?! I'm relatively new to photography, and I love to learn, so I'm open to suggestions. This photo also makes me smile. I ordered this packet of seeds on a whim last fall since another variety that I wanted was out of stock. My nephew, Michael, helped me plant the seeds after the weather had already turned cold, so I didn't get my hopes up about a high germination rate. Oops! They germinated like crazy! They've kind of taken over the flower bed, and I'm not really thrilled about that, but after seeing this flower, I don't have the heart to thin them out. Something tells me that the sight of all of those plants in bloom at once could be stunning. I'm beginning to think, though, that they might be best suited to a bed by themselves. The frosty blue-green foliage has soared to over three feet tall. The flower buds nod or hang their heads down until bloom time. Fascinating! This flower, which greeted me this morning, is the first of its kind this season. I'm looking forward to many more. I'll try to take some more photos, and I'll work on figuring out why those petal tips look so unreal. ~s
