“I wanted something that felt considered and designed, but not overly clinical”

While hiking up mountain trails in the Greater Seattle area, it was a common sight to see the mountainside cut apart by rapid glacial streams. Monolithic rock structures were broken apart by the erosion caused by such forces over eons. This layout attempted to capture that essence by replicating the strong dominance of the mountainsides covered by foliage and ripped apart over time. This layout was an attempt to tie together minimalism with dramatic rock structure laid out in my 'cluster' style of Iwagumi arrangement. This was the first of the "Seattle" series of aquascapes while I lived in Seattle. This layout utilizes only Hemianthus callichthrodes and dwarf hair grass. Four main stones vie for dominance in this layout with the plants flowing through the layout as if the stones were all part of one giant structure, like the rapid moving streams and rivers local to the Mountainous Seattle area.
