A few calculations are needed before you begin. 1. Measure your waist and add 1/2 to 1 inch for ease. 2. Divide that measurement by the number of panels you want your skirt to have. (My skirt has 6). 3. Add 1 inch to that number for 1/2 seam allowance on either edge. 4. The resulting number is the width of the top edge of each panel. 5. Now multiply that number by at least 1.5. I multiplied my number by 3 because I wanted a fuller skirt at the bottom. 6. The resulting measurement is the width of the bottom of each panel. 7. I measured the length of another skirt plushem lenght to get the length of each panel.8. Sewing right side together, sew entire skirt together. 9. Turn skirt inside out. Iron all seams open. 10. Place zipper face down on a seam so that the zipper is centered on the seam. 11. Pin in place and sew using a zipper foot. 12. Use seam ripper to open seam in front of zipper. 13. Take a nice deep breath! 14. Make waist band. Cut a length of fabric equal to waist measurement plus 2 inches. Width of strip should be 2 inches also. 15. Fold in half length-wise and iron. 16. Open up. Fold in edges to center crease and iron. 17. Pin raw edges together and sew in the top crease. 18. Flip waist band over, pin and sew very close to folded edge. 19. Take a pic!
I am sewing, madly sewing... I hope not too madly really, but I am working on outfits (among other things) for Audrey's upcoming birthday ...

Hola amores!!! Hi darlings!!! Today I show you the transformation of the third thrifted garment I showed you here. From the first moment I loved the quality of the fabric and the pattern of this shirt. I didn't want to make many modifications as I want it to be wearable on many occasions. So the transformation is simple but I think the result is very nice. To do this transformation I first adjusted the body. With the shirt inside out I pinned it to fit me. Then I marked a line as a guide for the seam, I folded the shirt to have the two sides symmetrical and cut. Be careful when cutting! You have to be sure that with the new seam the shirt will fit you. To make sure you can first sew the sides and check the fitting, and then cut. Now it's time to sew the side seams. Cuando ya tuve la forma que quería de la camisa hice varias cosas: le quité el bolsillo le hice pinzas (poniéndome la camisa del revés y ayudándome de alfileres para saber dónde ponerlas y de qué tamaño) hice el dobladillo de la sisa le cambié los botones Then I did these modifications: I removed the pocket I sewed darts (with the shirt inside out I pinned where I wanted the darts and then I sewed) I sewed the hem of the armhole I changed the buttoms Y este es el resultado!! / And this is the result!! ¿Os gusta? A mí me chifla!! Do you like it? I love it!! I've put it on several times. It's ideal to go to the office or to go for a walk, it's ideal for everything! A big hug!! Enjoy the holidays and see you next week!!

We are still in the depths of winter here in Australia, so I've been working on a pretty pastel cowl for myself on and off over the last three months. My hands are slowly getting back to normal (well, by that I mean my normal, they are still pretty numb but I am used to do that) - so I have been able to crochet again and get this cowl finished before winter ended! I got the inspiration for this from one of my favourite crochet bloggers, Heather from Pink Milk. She made one for herself and kindly shared her method and measurements in this blog post, so it was very easy to replicate. The stitch is called camel stitch and I love the knitted effect it creates. It produces such a lovely drape as well! I used Debbie Bliss Baby Cashmerino in an array of pastel colours - if ever I decided to engage in a monogamous relationship with a brand of yarn, this would be it. It comes in a large selection of pastel and bright colours, and is just so soft to touch and beautiful to work with. Love love love. I may have stashed away an obscene number of balls when there was a sale on a few months ago (for which I also blame Heather entirely - read this post from her blog and you will know why). Like Heather's cowl I used 7 colours, but as this is a lower ply yarn I used a smaller size hook (4 mm) and more stitches to achieve the required width (14"), also I made 6 rows of each colour rather than 5 to get the right height (10"). There's been a lot happening here at Down Grapevine Lane headquarters. My lovely hubby just installed floor to ceiling bookcases in my sewing room so I've been doing some major stash re-organisation to get all the fabric chaos under control. I am also working on my next fabric collection for Riley Blake (squee!), making a big quilt with Posy Garden, and doing some secret sewing on the side. And several blog tours coming up (including my own for Sweet Orchard!) so I am planning ahead for those, and playing with new designs. It never ends! But I wouldn't have it any other way! :-) Thanks for visiting and have a lovely day, wherever you are in the world!
