I've been wanting to cover my sewing machine chair for some time now. It was nasty and full of holes from years of use and abuse. (I think I bought it in 1987, the same year I got my sewing machine). I love bloggers!! From them I got the idea to make my own fabric using selvedges. So much fun and so much color! I used a piece of muslin to trace the back and seat and filled up the area with selvedges and a few pieces of polka dot fabrics. I couldn't undo the seat part so I pushed the piece in with a screwdriver. The back came off and I wrapped that piece around and hot glued it before I put it back together. Now I have a comfy, beautiful chair! Don't you just love it? Zoom in for a closer look! Linking to (or trying) Kootoyou, Sew Much Ado and How Sweet the Sound for Pink Saturday. I'm so excited! Karen is featuring my chair on Selvage Blog. If you love inspiration, you'll love her posts!!

Yeah, this chair is the bees knees! I friggin love it! You'll see why! I found it at an estate sale about a month ago. Uber creepy. Apparently the wife had died and the new girlfriend wanted all of her stuff out. Thanks for telling me gossipy estate sale lady - now I'm creeped out! I did, however try on a pair of the dead lady's sunglasses. What?! They were awesome - she also had a pair of Ray-ban sunglasses! I digress - here is the chair is all of it's before glory: You know the drill - get that nasty fabric off immediately! Gross! I didn't take any during pictures - not really much to see. I removed the wheels. I loved the vintage feel of this chair and the plastic wheels just cheapened it. I took the seat and the back off so I could remove the old, nasty fabric and reupholster. I also removed the legs. Sand, prime, paint, wax. DONE! Here is where the secret compartment comes in: Yeah buddy! I imagine this being used as a sewing/craft/music chair! It's quite roomy in there! Here's a close-up of the fabric - I got it at Joann Fabrics with my 50% off coupon (from my phone app)! One more - I can't help it! Here's a sneak peek at one of the trillion projects I'm working on! I LOVE break - so productive!! I'll have projects to post for months! Cheers!!

I really like the shape of 50' furniture: slim design, slanted table legs ( Ercol style). Unfortunately I have no space for new large furniture so I was delighted when I discovered a super cute miniature option: an Eames planter. Recently discovered on Ebay I have been in pursue ever since! Problem is....everybody else seems to share the same passion, as usually happens.....so prices rocket so quickly that I am outbid in a dash! Yesterday a cute red one went for £ 270.oo, some reach £ 380.00 so I was very disappointed. Imagine my happiness when I managed to grab my very own mini table ...from a seller next to my work place and very reasonable price ! Seller was so kind to deliver it to me this afternoon so it sits now proud next to me....this is it: It is really small and fits anywhere: great for a cup of tea, a book or the phone...I LOVE it! And there are so many versions, different formica top and shapes! Then I found a single level mini table for £ 12.00 in a Vintage Emporium... I screamed and grabbed it before anybody else! Now both mini tables sit next to my sofa...and I smile! ( I made the pretty patchwork tissue box cover with vintage fabric....have a look a my tutorial posted a while ago!) My next job is to find the perfect Vintage sewing box! I remember my own Grandma sewing box, full of intriguing bits and bobs, buttons and ribbons....Paradise! So these shapes have cought my eye on the market...we shall see if I am lucky! This one is very elegant and almost " Shaker style" I like the red woven top of this one! This one is almost identical to my grandmas' one! Memories...... xx

Today I'm linking up with Susan @ Between Naps On The Porch and Home Goods for the "Mom Cave contest". Here are the rules; Well as soon as I saw this challenge my competitive spirit came out! Not only because I think I have all five components of the challenge and would love to win a $250.00 gift certificate to Home Goods, but I think I have the best "mom cave" in the world...well maybe even the universe...just sayin'. I'd like to invite you to read the history of how this room came to be thanks to my hero, Mr. La Bella Vie. Its a fun story, however I don't want to lose my audience with text, instead I'll hold you captive with eye candy pictures of the sweetest "Mom Cave" I have ever been in. Come on in... First rule; a place to sit. This is where I do hand sewing, reading, listening to music and yes occasionally napping. Its cozy, quiet and right by a sunny window, it just doesn't get any better... this sunny bank of windows is on the south side of the house facing the back of our property, the chair sits right next to it (do you see it, bottom left corner?) Second rule; space to organize your stuff. I am an avid quilter and fabricaholic (among many other collecting addictions) and these are a few of the ways in which I organize my junk stuff. This is just one side of the room. This a bit picture heavy but I just couldn't help myself and besides, Susan said she wanted lots of pictures and lots of close-ups:) pull out bins for fabric storage... (click to enlarge "wall words") my custom display shelf built by my hero, Mr. LBV for my toy sewing machine and pin cushion collection... reflection in the vintage mirror is the opposite side of the room Below; one of my pin cushion dolls; "Miss Rose City". I made her as I have with many of my pin cushions. Most of the pin cushion dolls I've made are embellished with my mothers old jewlery... vintage thimble boy... shoe and boot pin cushions... now for the other side of the room... This bookshelf unit was built by Mr. LBV. Behind the antique Double Wedding ring quilt is a Murphy bed for the occasional guest. You can see it in action below...isn't that the coolest thing! below is my felt covered, cork board design wall on the shelves... a CD player for music books for inspiration sit next to Tiffany bear (she's made from an old quilt block)... a few of my antique quilts... Third rule; the place we do our craft or hobby, in this case my Koala sewing cabinet and table and craft/cutting table. These pieces are huge when open and fold down to just a fraction of their original size. Fourth rule; a place where your girlfriends can visit and do the hobbies we love. OK so this isn't the best picture but I had no idea I would ever need a photo for blogging! The Fifth and last rule; to post pictures of what you would need from Home Goods online to "beef up your mom cave" so here they are...lamps, lamps and more lamps and lighting! I thought these would be adorable in my Mom cave because I really do need more light for when I'm in there in the evening and another chair for girlfriends day, oh and a tea set and tray for nibbles would be nice too and a couple more storage baskets...I could go on and on but don't want to sound ungrateful for what I already have! Thanks Susan for hosting another fun Linky party, you're the best hostess!!
