The poker is made by first splitting the end of a bar then folding it over and fusing the two parts together in the fire. Then the features are put in using hammer and chisels, refined and a spiralling twist is added to the shaft and the end forged to a point (other options are available). Finally I stamp each finished item with my makers mark. Approximately 66 cm / 26 inch long. Have a look at my other pokers if you would like a different animal. I forge in a small smithy in the heart of the English countryside, working with equipment and techniques that are hundreds of years old. I take inspiration from the natural world and enjoy producing highly detailed, textured work which often also has a function. Each piece is wrought from solid steel and hammered out with no mechanical shortcuts or modern tooling. Each product is finished with a traditional mix of linseed oil and beeswax. Applied hot it burns on to the surface giving a slightly darker finish to the metal without obscuring any of the hammer marks like modern paints or finishes would. Please note that the finish is not food safe, if you wish to use the toasting fork the wax and oil should be removed. The best way to do this is to heat the tips until it burns off and then apply a food safe oil such as olive or vegetable, seasoning the metal like you would a cast iron pan. Please contact me for further information if required. Because of the nature of my work and the materials used there will be slight variations between products as no two are ever completely the same. The Items I sell are all forged to order, please contact me if you need one for a specific date and I can usually move things around to get it to you in time. International postage will be tracked. Thank you
